One of the worst decisions I ever made was to try a 5-day juice cleanse my senior year of college. Maybe its one of those things you just have to do once to know its a terrible idea.
Detoxing, or cleansing doesn’t really remove chemicals or toxins from your bodythat’s something our organs and immune system already do. Our livers are specifically designed to remove bodily waste and our kidneys filter blood as well. The process requires zero strict diets, cleanses, detoxes, or starvation. Especially not starvation.
General Guidelines For Clean Eating
Although its good to know the types, its a good idea to know some basic principles that you can follow to keep your eating as clean as possible.
On the whole, youll want to prioritise eating whole, fresh food rather than canned food. Canned food often has lots more sodium, which can lead to increases in blood pressure.
If youre hungry between meal times, its a good idea to stock up on some healthy snacks. Fruits, berries, nuts and seeds are great choices that are full of fiber. High fiber contents within food help keep you full without consuming many calories.
Youll also want to start experimenting with different herbs and spices rather than using salt all the time to flavour food.
Protein and fiber are both nutrients you should ensure you are getting enough of. Both help you feel satiated, meaning you stay full and therefore, will feel the need to snack less. Protein is essential in preventing muscle loss and fiber helps improve digestion.
A good habit to pick up is to check the food labels. You may be surprised how much sodium/salt or sugar are in particular foods. Certain types of foods are also be high in saturated fats, so its good to be aware how much you are consuming.
Eating a clean diet doesnt mean starving yourself or being overly restrictive with your food choices. This causes nutritional imbalances, which can lead to health problems.

So, when it comes to losing 20 lbs in 2 weeks, what is the bottom line? Although it is feasible that a person could lose many pounds of body fat in a couple of weeks, these generally involve risky methods of dieting.
To achieve your perfect body weight and maintain good health, you should reduce calorie intake over a period of many weeks, make positive lifestyle changes, and exercise regularly. After all, extra weight was gained over a long period of time.
For example, the Mayo Clinic says that every pound of body fat contains 3,500 calories.23 So, to lose 20 lbs of fat in 14 days, you would have to lose about 1.5 lbs. of fat a day. This means burning on average 5,000 calories more than you consume per day. You also need to be aware that initially you will lose water weight and not just fat.
How many hours per day will you have to work out to lose 20 lbs. in 2 weeks? The Mayo Clinic says that high impact aerobic exercising burns about 650 calories an hour.24 Therefore, you would have to work out for about 7 hours of intense exercise every day for 2 weeks to lose 20 lbs.
The bottom line when it comes to losing a lot of weight rapidly is this: stick to safe and healthy methods of losing weight that will boost your health and help you reach your perfect body weight.

While aiming to look better for yourself or others can be one of your motivators, focusing on nonappearance-related motivators, such as improved stamina and mood or reduced triglyceride and blood pressure levels, may up your odds of successful long-term weight loss.
