Best Facial Cleanser for Eczema
Facial eczema is extremely difficult to treat and as such, a gentle enough treatment is always tricky to find. Many cleansers on the market are ridden with toxic ingredients such as parabens, fragrances, phthalates and much more.
A proper cleanser for eczema needs to be gentle, but should also be soothing and nourishing as well. You dont want to opt for a cleanser that will leave your skin feeling dry. That will only be uncomfortable and result in further eczema flares. The problem with most cleansers and soaps is that they strip the skin and leave you worse off than when you began. To combat acne and blackheads effectively, Mokaya suggests looking for cleansers that pair salicylic and glycolic acids together. These ingredients can get deep into the pores and promote essential exfoliation.
Similarly, charcoal is another deep-cleaning ingredient to keep in mind, as this ingredient has antiseptic properties and can remove dirt and toxins from the skin.
Charcoal can absorb dirt, chemicals, toxins, and some acne-causing bacteria from the skin, Mokaya explains. Charcoal also has anti-inflammatory properties and decreases the inflammation associated with acne.
To add charcoal, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid to your skin care routine, she suggests this cleanser. It combines all ingredients for pore exfoliation.
Should I Use Different Products For Different Areas
Absolutely! According to Nussbaum depending where the eczema is located it should be treated differently. For example, eyelids and sensitive skin areas like underarms, inguinal folds and lips will be treated with a lighter strength corticosteroid than thicker skin like the back or legs, she explains.
The scalp can experience a few different conditions which may look like eczema, however could be a form of seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis or fungal infection. Therefore always see a dermatologist to help diagnose the condition. Depending on the condition, there are different shampoos, gels and creams containing ingredients such as coal tar, salicylic acid, corticosteroid or selenium sulfide can also effectively treat the scalp.

Members Of Myeczemateam On The Best Soaps For Eczema
Many members of MyEczemaTeam, the social network for people living with eczema, have shared their experiences and tips on the best soaps to use.
- I have to stick with fragrance-free, and the more natural, the better. Check out Modere. Its an online-only company that I refer all the time. I love their stuff, and they carry everything from laundry soap to vitamins.”
- For soap, I use Natural Choice soaps. They are made of only natural ingredients.
- Everyone is different, so you need to find the soap that works best for you. I previously used Cetaphil, but Im finding relief with a highly emollient skin cleanser, such as Aveeno Fragrance-free Baby Wash. Others have found Dove or goat milk soap to work best for them. You just need to experiment and go all fragrance-free, moisturizing with an eczema cream or ointment within three minutes of towel drying after a bath or shower.

What Recommendations Do You Have For Over
In general, one of the best things you can do for eczema is to find a great moisturizer. Lotions can be a bit drying, as they have a higher water content, so board-certified dermatologist and CEO of Curology, Dr. David Lortscher recommends picking a heavier cream with ceramides or petrolatum.
If your skin is particularly dry or if youre exposed to very cold dry air, you should begin using a thin layer of a heavier moisturizer in the morning to help protect your skin. Moisturizing is the key to improving skin barrier function, resolving symptoms much faster, and reducing relapse with continual treatment.
What Are The Different Types Of Eczema
There are different types of dermatitis, including atopic eczema, allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, and asteatotic eczema. When most people talk about eczema they usually are referring to atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema. Atopic dermatitis is common and tends to run in families along with asthma, hay fever, sinus trouble, and dry skin.

She Relies On Prescription
“Since I am acne prone and have a bit of rosacea , I try to use active ingredients to target this both in the AM and PM. In the morning I usually use a prescription Azelaic Acid gel or Epiduoforte . Adapalene is actually retinoid that does not deactivate when exposed to sunlight unlike other retinol, Retin-A, etc. I also love that Epiduo has glycerin, which is technically a primer. Anytime I can reduce the number of steps in my skincare routine is a win!”

I’m sceptical that these products will help to clear eczema but they most likely help ease the itching that cokes with it. I will probably try the vaseline body butter cream.

My eczema isn’t all that bad, I only get it on the backs of my knees and inner elbows, but it’s still annoyingly itchy and dry, I guess I’ll start trying each one of these

My granddaughter was born with eczema. We tried just about everything, the steroids the over the counter creams, until someone recommended this eczema kit from this site called Asebella. I ordered the eczema kit from them and it instantly stopped the itching, the red bumps and the dryness. I even ordered some healing butter for the dark marks and now her skin looks and feels FANTASTIC. She is only 7 and no longer itching. She takes her kit with her everywhere she swears by it.

Avene and Eucerin are awesome!!

The Vaseline sounds promising. I use one Eucerin at work and don’t notice a huge difference over regular lotion, except that it smells worse.

Easy Like Sunday Morning
Another major trigger for eczema is stress and anxiety. But, does skincare help with eczema if its stress-induced? Absolutely! All of the above-mentioned tips will help to calm the skin, reducing irritation and letting it heal. But, you can also use skin care to reduce stress, helping reduce flare-ups in the first place.
Each day, take your skincare routine for eczema as an opportunity for some self-care time. We all need a couple of minutes to decompress and centre ourselves after a busy day. For instance, whether youre cleansing or toning, you can use that time to practice daily affirmations or think of things youre grateful for.
Equally, you can treat yourself to a loving facial massage at the end of the day. Using a jade roller or our personal favourite, a gua sha, can help to release tension and improve circulation. We love using our Luxury Facial Oil with a jade gua sha to gently massage the face, whilst soothing and hydrating the skin.

Eczema On The Face Versus The Body
Even though all three experts agree that the general signs and symptoms of eczema will be the same regardless of where it appears on your bodyface includedthere are some key differences that are important to be aware of.
As Wheeler explains, eczema on the face can be more difficult to manage since the skin is more sensitive and we tend to apply more products that might trigger a flare-up. This, for example, would require a different treatment strategy than a type of eczema on the hands called pompholyx or dyshidrotic eczema which, Bae says, presents itself as deep-seated blisters.
“You can also get nummular eczema, which looks like a coin-shaped rash on the body. Plus, since many patients with eczema scratch and rub the areas affected, it’s not uncommon for the skin to appear thickened and/or sometimes darker in some areas of the body and face than others,” says Bae.
Best Soaps For Eczema: Your Guide
Your skin care routine may play a bigger role in triggering your eczema than you think. Some of the most common triggers of eczema are dry skin, stress, and irritants. Because soap is a common irritant, people with eczema often have to be careful when choosing how to wash their skin.
Whether its for your hands or body, youll want to find a soap that gets you clean without aggravating your eczema symptoms, such as itchiness, dryness, and inflammation.
But what exactly should you look for? Is there anything you should avoid? Lets take a look at the ingredients you should pay attention to when purchasing soap, as well as some MyEczemaTeam members experiences and recommendations.

Eltamd Skincare Foaming Facial Cleanser
EltaMDs Foaming Facial Cleanser is the preferred choice of many people with eczema. Thats because it removes makeup but wont over dry your face. The two ingredients that reach deep into your pores are amino acids from apples and bromelain. They lather away impurities and leave your skin moisturized.
Why Cant I Use Regular Cleansers For Eczema
Because many regular cleansers contain harsh chemicals that strip the skin of its natural moisture. For instance, sulfates are a common foaming agent in cleansers but are incredibly harsh for the skin. Another potential irritant is artificial fragrance, which is basically a deadly cocktail of toxic chemicals, alcohol and preservatives. As a rule of thumb, dermatologists like Dr. Andrea Suarez recommend to avoid cleansers that contain artificial fragrances or perfume as they are most likely to irritate the skin.

Can I Use Hyaluronic Acid If I Have Eczema
Were so glad you asked! Of course, you can. In fact, we recommend adding it to your skincare routine for eczema. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant, meaning it sucks moisture into the skin and holds it there. It is a small step in your skincare routine that has a major payoff. Hyaluronic acid helps bring moisture to deeper levels of the skin, as well as keeping it hydrated for longer.
Looking after the moisture barrier is priority number one when it comes to caring for eczema-prone skin, so anything that will bring hydration to the table gets a major thumbs up from us. Hyaluronic acid, in particular, tends to be about 5 – 8 on the pH scale, meaning that its as neutral as water. This means that its highly unlikely that it will irritate your skin or cause a flare-up. It can help to reduce flare-ups by keeping the skin hydrated.
After you have cleansed and applied a hydrating toner, you can add a small amount of hyaluronic acid to the skin. We love applying it to damp skin to really lock in moisture. When youre creating your skincare routine for eczema, we suggest applying your products in order of consistency – from thinnest to thickest. Doing this makes sure they absorb into the skin, rather than just sitting on top of it.
What Is Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin tends to be skin that is easily stimulated. This means that the skin reacts faster and quicker than skin that isnt sensitive. It all depends on factors such as seasons, products and even hormonal fluctuations. If you notice your skin getting flaky, dry and tight, rashes and acne, then you are probably suffering from sensitive skin.
With that said, we all tend to have sensitive skin at some point in our lives. However, some people have actual skin conditions such as contact dermatitis and rosacea. Those who are genetically sensitive will always have an extra sensitivity to their skin.

What Actually Is Eczema
Defined by distinct patches of rough, dry skin that is often red and scaly, eczema is a non-contagious skin condition that is sometimes referred to as atopic dermatitis. Often its most distressing symptom is a gnawing itch that accompanies these patches, which can appear all over the body. When eczema is very active, it may also become moist, crusted or weepy, says dermatologist Dr Justine Kluk. The skin can also eventually become thicker and darker in areas that are repeatedly scratched. Atopic eczema is the most common form of the skin condition, though others include contact dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis.
Eau Thermale Avne Cicalfate+ Restorative Protective Cream
So, miracle upon miracle, your eczema is gone. Hooray! But you know that one patch of dry skin that isn’t well-moisturized can kick-start the whole cycle again. Don’t fret: This moisturizer, the best I’ve tried in its field, will keep your skin hydrated for hours at a time. Unlike Aquaphor and Vaseline, which can result in skin shinier than the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, this cream will go on light and leave you glowing .
