Best Oil For Oil Cleansing

Ogee Liquid Gold Cleansing Oil

GUIDE TO OIL CLEANSING | Best Oil Cleansers By Skin Type – Oil Cleansing for Blackheads & Oil Plugs
  • Price: $$

Liquid gold is the right description this stuff is amazing. The rich cleansing oil is billed as a moisturizing makeup remover, but its so much more than that.

The oil tackles even the most stubborn waterproof mascara with ease, and it leaves my skin bright, fresh, and clean.

Ogees hero ingredient, organic cold-pressed jojoba oil, comes from a sustainable farm in the United States.

The formula is rounded out with frankincense, elderberry, and brown sea kelp extract for calming, firming, and moisturizing properties.

How To Get Started With Oil Cleansing

Step one:

Pick a single oil or oil blend to start. If you dont already have a preference, try a 50/50 mix of castor oil and another cleansing oil. My go-to oils are avocado oil or jojoba oil.

Dont want to use castor oil? No problem. Its not necessary by any means, and some people find that it dries out their skin anyway. Use one or two of the other cleansing oils instead.

Step two:

Start by incorporating oil cleansing into your nightly routine two or three times a week. Ideally, dont use other cleansers in between. Youre trying to help balance your natural facial oils and allow your skin to adapt to oil cleansing. Simply wash your face with a washcloth and warm water.

Dont add any other new products to your routine at this time. You want to be able to see how your skin reacts to the oils.

Step three:

Once your skin acclimates, optionally start to experiment with adding specialty or essential oils. Again, make only one change at a time to gauge your skins reaction, especially if its sensitive. Dont do what I do and change it up every time on a whim.

What Are The Best Oils For The Oil Cleansing Method

I know, there are so many to choose from! And they all have different properties. Some cleanse better than others. A few are comedogenic, others arent. Some can even irritate your skin, while others are gentle enough for the most sensitive of skin types.

The trick is to figure out what the best combination for your skin type is. But how the heck do you do that?! Experiment. Try a few combinations and see what your skin likes best.

Here are a few oils that are good for the oil cleansing method:

What Is The Oil Cleansing Method And How Does It Work

10 best facial cleansing oils of 2020 for all skin types ...

The oil cleansing method uses natural oils to cleanse your skin.

It works because like attracts like. Basically, your makeup has oil. Your face produces oil. The impurities comfortably lodged in your pores are oily. Castor oil and co act like a magnet, attracting all that oil-based gunk and taking it on a journey down the drain.

FYI, oil cleansing aint nothing new. If you take a quick look at your fave cleanser, chances are a few oils have sneaked their way in there. Thats what makes them work so well.

In these cleansers, oils are joined by surfactants, a group of ingredients that helps them mix with water to remove those impurities faster. Surfactants are also the reason these cleansers leave no greasy residue behind.

If youre already using an oil-based cleanser, youre already on the oil cleansing method bandwagon. Feel free to stick with it. But if you want to go down the natural route or make your own DIY cleanser, keep reading on. Ill show you how to do it:

How To Use Your Own Oil Cleanser Every Day

Applying your oil blend could not be easier! All you need is a soft, bamboo fibre or cotton cloth. If you want to remove make up from small areas like your eyes, you can use reusable cotton roundel.

Pair your homemade oil cleanser with reusable make up roundels for a zero waste routine

Step 1

Wash your hands well, dry them and then squeeze 4-5 drops of the oil into the palm of your hand.

Step 2

Distribute the oil between your hands and start massaging it once the face, including the neck, in circular movements. This will take you between one to three minutes. Just enjoy it and don’t rush it. If you need to remove any eye make up, add a couple of drops of oil to a wet cotton roundel and gently scrub any make-up away. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

Will Switching To Oil Cleansing Cause Breakouts

Its possible. But dont panic, and dont give up.

It can take the skin and its ecosystems some time to adjust to your new oil-cleansing routine, says Cartwright. She recommends staying the course and only using the oil cleanser for a least a month to see how it works with your skin.

Also, keep in mind that there can be other things at play if youre breaking out.

The internal state of the body, with its own imbalances, often expresses itself on the skin, meaning that breakouts and acne are complex and usually not simply a one-to-one reaction of whats applied topically, Prioglio explains.

Beauty Of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm

Best Cleansing Oils in India

The Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm uses rice-derived ingredients like rice bran oil, rice extract, and rice bran water. This is a balm cleanser, ideal for dry skin, but other skin types can use it as well.

Rice bran water and oil are traditional Korean skincare ingredients that go centuries back. So its a tried and tested ingredient Koreans have been using for ages. While its not potent at all, it does help remove sticky makeup residue.

In addition to the rice ingredients, it also includes lavender, chrysanthemum, and lactobacillus . Lavender has anti-inflammatory properties, whereas chrysanthemum vitamin A, which has many benefits including preventing skin irritation.

As for soybean ferment, the company claims it can help reduce wrinkles. Of course, it wont be enough on its own for reducing fine lines and wrinkles, but anyone looking for a strong anti-aging routine can include this as their cleaning staple.

Oil Cleansing Method For Dry Skin

Those with dry skin tend to have smaller pores, and their skin simply does not produce a lot of oil. Their skin tends to feel drier and more delicate to the touch, especially if they dont have a great moisturizing routine.

For those with dry skin, the oil cleansing method usually works beautifully! To get the most benefits out of the oil cleansing method for dry skin you should take the chance to mix a few oils together to get a variety of additional benefits, since each oil has its own unique compounds.

Jojoba oil, apricot oil, and almond oil are great base oils for dry skin, since they have a wonderful texture, while adding a few drops of rosehip seed oil can give anti-aging benefits.

Dry skin is often dehydrated in addition to lacking oil, so if thats the case for you, avoid overly occlusive oils like mineral oil, as they will prevent hydrating serums from penetrating your skin after the cleansing.

The Oil Cleansing Method Vs Traditional Cleansers

Not all facial cleansers are created equal. Especially when you look at cheaper cleansers, they tend to be made up mostly of detergents.

While across the board these detergents tend to do a good job of cleansing the skin, they are also very likely to strip it completely of oil, dehydrate it, and irritate it. This is especially true with sodium lauryl and sodium laureth sulfates, which are two of the most ubiquitous cleansing agents out on the market.

Even gentler cleansing ingredients like cocamidopropyl betaine are still harsher on dry skin than oil is. The oil cleansing method doesnt have any of these skin stripping properties , so it is phenomenal for people whose skin has been damaged by harsh cleansers or other irritants.

Unlike commercial cleansers, however, the oil cleansing method does normally leave behind some oil residue. This isnt usually an issue for people with dry or normal skin, but for those with oily skin it can lead to a greasy look throughout the day. In that case its better to use an oil cleanser with some emulsifiers in it to double cleanse or to find a gentle cleanser without harsh detergents.

What Is A Cleansing Oil

Cleansing oil is a kind of cleanser that is typically used for makeup removal and cleansing. As the name suggests, these have an oil form. These are different from other water-soluble or water-based cleansers like gel or foam cleansers in that they contain oils as the main ingredient.

The oils in these cleansers can help remove makeup residue, sebum, dirt, and debris, without needing water. However, you do need water to rinse off the cleanser. These may also contain surfactants and humectants, which help hydrate the skin.

Cleansing oil is similar to a cleansing balm, with the only difference being the texture. The balms have a sherbert texture thats not as fluid as oil. However, on application, even cleansing balms get a milky or oily texture because, essentially, the balms also contain oils.

Therefore, when it comes to oil cleansing, oil cleansers and balms are used interchangeably. Some may prefer balms better than oils because of the very texture.

Although cleansing oils are not exclusive to Korean skincare, they have become an important part of the traditional Korean skincare routine, including the famous 10 step regime. Oil cleansers are frequently used with another kind of water-soluble cleanser as part of the double cleansing routine in Korean skincare.

Everything You Need To Know About Oil Cleansing

Best Cleansing Oil | THE FACE SHOP Rice Water Cleansing Oil & Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Oil Review

Oil to clean your face? Absolutely!

The oil cleansing method has been on the skincare scene for a little while now, but there are still some who are understandably hesitant to jump on the bandwagon. Slathering an extra layer of oil on your skin sounds like the last thing youd want to, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin. But as it turns out, this approach to cleansing works for all skin types.

    My Favorite Oil Cleanser Blends

After testing out DIY oil cleansers and struggling with skin issues for years, I actually dont recommend creating your own blend unless you have normal skin that doesnt really react to new products!

My all time recommended oil cleanser is the . It has a blend of safflower seed oil, sunflower seed oil, apricot kernel oil, vitamin E and lavender essential oil. I truly believe it is the best on the market and a great cleanser for those skeptical of oil cleansing!

Trilogy Cleansing Balm the absolute best at removing makeup and dirt build-up. I do find I still need to do a double cleanse afterwards but some people prefer not to. This is my go-to hack for the Beautycounter Cleansing Balm which is effectively the same thing and 3x the price!

Cocokind Facial Oil Cleanser Not my most favorite but definitely budget-friendly! I had a bottle of this on hand that Ive been using up and definitely dont mind it. I still need to double cleanse but a good, affordable option that they sell at Target!

Lovinah Power Cleansing Balm HOLY COW this product is good! Its probably my most recent discovery in skincare and has quickly become a favorite. What I love about this one is that you dont necessarily need to double cleanse or even use a wash cloth! The formula just melts everything off your skin. Kind of obsessed with this one

Oil Cleansing Method For Combination Skin

Those with combination skin usually have larger pores in the T-zone and small or medium sized pores over the rest of their face. The amount of oil their skin produces fluctuates with the seasons.

If this sounds like you, then you really need to judge for yourself if you prefer a more traditional OCM that would leave a bit of oil on the skin, or the rinse-off or double cleansing method.

The best oil blend for combination skin would be light but nourishing, so a hint of jojoba oil along with lighter oils like grape seed or rosehip oil would be a great choice.

How Do You Use The Oil Cleansing Method

This may be obvious, but you dont need to use the oil cleansing method in the morning. Unless you went to sleep with your makeup on. *tut tut*.

The oil cleansing method works best for removing stubborn makeup and sunscreen, not the few impurities that have settled on your skin during the night. Dont waste your oils!

So, how do you do it?

Step 1: Mix the oils together, either in the palm of your hand or in a small bottle.Step 2: Massage the mixture on your dry face for a few minutes to remove makeup and other impurities.Step 3: Wet a washcloth with warm water and gently wipe your face with it.Step 4: Repeat step 3 until youve wiped all the excess oil from your skin.Step 5 : Follow up with your regular cleanser to remove the oily residue left behind by the oil.

    Thats it. Easy peasy, right?

PRO TIP: Wash your washcloth between uses. You dont want to cleanse your skin with a dirty washcloth. Youll just put all that crap back onto your face. Oh, and let the washcloth dry properly after every use. Humid washcloths are playgrounds for bacteria.
