Product Review: Biore Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water
I was never really a product guru. My skin survived perfectly well with regular soap, water and exfoliating once a month. One time, I won a soap in a giveaway with a certain brand. This was the beginning of my problems. I started to experience a condition called hyperpigmentation. Initially, I assumed it was one of those products that your skin takes time to adjust to, but one week down the line I decided to quit altogether. This was when I started trying products to get rid of the hyperpigmentation. I tried very many products, none of which seemed to work. Eventually, I decided to give up. My skin would heal itself even if it took time. After all, a watched pot never boils. It didnt make sense to monitor the skin every single day. I chose to go back to the minimalist way.
Currently, my routine consists of an exfoliator, face masks and The Biore micellar water. I can comfortably say that these products have helped with the hyperpigmentation. Im not saying you should go and buy these exact products expecting to see a change overnight. Im saying, take time to find what works for you, and stick to it.

I’m so glad the embargo dropped so I can scream my love for this cleanser from the rooftop bars I spend too much money in during Summer. I love pumping this formula onto a cotton pad, swiping it across my face, and watching my makeup literally disappear. Despite its effectiveness, it’s still super gentle, and I don’t have to scrub off layers of my skin to get my mascara off. I’m no stranger to micellar water , but the new Biore Charcoal Cleansing Micellar Water and Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Micellar Water instantly piqued my curiosity with their novel twists on what’s more or less a classic formula. So how do they stack up against other ones I’ve tried? All the details after the jump!
For those of you who haven’t jumped onto the micellar water bandwagon yet, here’s a quick primer. Micellar water is known for being a cleansing and makeup removing solution that’s effective yet mild and super versatile. I’ve gone from regarding it as a skincare novelty to something that I have to have in my medicine cabinet at all times. You’ll see why when I list all the ways I use it:
- As an AM cleanser if I want something gentle
- As an all-over oil-free makeup remover
- As an eye makeup remover that gets rid of waterproof mascara and eyeliner with minimal rubbing
- As a quick refresh anytime of the day
- As a nighttime cleanser when I’m feeling lazy and want to do my entire skincare routine from the comfort of my couch with Netflix on

First, the good. Biore’s micellar waters are dermatologist- and opthamologist-tested, oil-free, pH-balanced, and hypoallergenic. I’m happy to report that the addition of charcoal and baking soda has not made these formulas irritating whatsover. And at less than $10 for a generous 300 ml bottle, they’re more affordable than the French pharmacy brands.
