Con: Cleansing Is Not Cheap
As stated before, this is a booming new business and monopoly so many products will be thrown in your face- some at a more expensive price than the other. First off, the juicer ranges from $50-$400 USD for those who are planning on making their own juices. This can save you money in the long run if you’re planning on having a juice per day, however, it may not be worth it for a 7-day challenge. Next, the vegetables and supplements themselves which can add up when one cup of juice contains: 1 carrot, 1 tomato, 1 apple, 2 celery sticks and so on. For those partaking in a cleansing challenge you will also be expecting high charges.
Is Everything Passed Through Breast Milk
A breastfeeding mother doesnt require special foods to produce milk or increase her milk supply. Milk production is determined by the amount of milk removed from the breast. There is no particular food that must necessarily be eaten, especially if this is something that the mother is not used to or doesnt like.
Bottom Line On Juice Fasts And Cleanses
Juice fasting and cleansing are essentially trendy, fad diets, and most of the reported health benefits of juice fasting are not backed by science. There are better and safer alternatives to juice fasting, like just adding more fruits and vegetables to your daily diet. Pro: Unhealthy Food Is Off Limits

What Are The Risks Of Juice Fasting
There are quite a few downsides to and side effects of juice fasting and cleansing, which is why many health professionals like dietitians and doctors don’t recommend itespecially if a cleanse consists of fruit-only juices.
- You may experience headaches and fatigue: Juices are higher in sugar and lower in fiber than whole foods, leading to a greater likelihood of spikes and dips in blood sugar. Some people say that headaches from juice fasting are due to the toxins leaving your body, but fluctuating blood sugar, in addition to the lower energy intake from the lack of protein and fat in the juices, are actually the root causes of headaches and fatigue.
- You may feel socially isolated: Think about it if you’re wanting to do a longer juice cleanse of 10 days or so, that’s 10 days when you’ll be going to lunch with co-workers and won’t be able to eat. That could be multiple dinners out when you can only sip on water.
- They can be seriously expensive: Juice fasts can be quite expensive, especially if you buy a pre-formulated cleanse. A three-day juice cleanse will often run you anywhere between $99 and $195. That would probably buy you two weeks’ worth of groceries!
- They can be difficult to maintain: All of these factors make juice fasts hard to maintain, even for just a day. And for some people, juice fasts can encourage a type of restrictive eating that may promote an unhealthy relationship with food.

Here Are Nine Strategies You Can Safely Use While Breastfeeding To Keep Your Inner House Clean:
1) Make sure youre digesting and eliminating well In other words: ensure youre pooping at least once daily. Your digestion is one of the primary vehicles for your body to eliminate toxins both food waste and the toxins your liver has neutralized. Heres the connection: your liver neutralizes toxins, which are excreted from the body in bile. The bile is stored in your gallbladder, where it waits until youve eaten a meal containing fat. When your digestive system senses fat is present, your gallbladder squirts the stored bile into the top of the small intestine, where it breaks down the fats and escorts toxins out of the body in your poop. Kinda cool, right?
If pooping daily is something you struggle with and please know that many breastfeeding mamas get constipated then getting things moving should be a top priority. Try adding beets to your daily diet to help thin the bile flow. There are lots of natural strategies for getting things moving, but this gets more clinical so wed recommend you work with a practitioner if what youve tried so far hasnt worked.
The best way to get your lymph moving is to bounce: skip rope, do some jumping jacks, go for a jog, jump on a rebounder or trampoline do anything that has gravity and requires you to bounce. Runners have excellent lymphatic flow because they do all that bouncing and theyre also pumping their arms at the same time, stimulating lymph flow in the nodes in their armpits. Time to break out the baby jogger?

I mentioned above why I dont like the keto diet. The reason is you NEED carbs. But you need good carbs from brown rice, oatmeal, quinoa, and whole-grain bread because they will help you lose belly fat. Thats from this study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Con: High Blood Sugar Levels
Lets be real here – only drinking “green juices” is a little unrealistic. Many who choose to partake in juice cleanses end up adding copious amounts of fruit to their diet. Fruits are an essential to a person’s health, if used in proper amounts. Introducing a wave of fruits into your diet is sure to spike your sugar levels and if done for too long can increase your risk for diabetes. “Keep it green” is a good motto, but if you can’t stick to it maybe think of easing up on the number of juices you’re having per day!

Can I Parasite Cleanse While Breastfeeding
Initially, I was a little taken aback by this question. I received several inquiries, and I thought surely my readers cant be talking about the tapeworm diet. Ick! And if you are, please know that I do not at all advocate such a thing ever, especially if youre breastfeeding.
So, Im hoping against hope that those that asked were referring to cleansing away parasites while cleansing and that is a perfectly acceptable thing to do, though you should be working with your doctor if you suspect youre an unwitting host.
Note that:
In the homeopathic world, parasite cleanses are recommended yearly because they say you never know what parasites might be lurking inside of you. Dont diagnose yourself, though. It takes a stool sample from your doctor to determine if you indeed have a parasite problem. Different parasites will require different medications.
The list of symptoms is lengthy and can range from stomach pain and diarrhea to flu-like symptoms and aches and pains. Again, call your doctor for anything unusual and have it checked out.
If your doctor does find something concerning, you might want to do a parasite cleanse under their guidance. Generally speaking, though, you should eat a well-balanced and nutritious diet and remove processed foods and refined sugars. More fiber is better, too, to keep your bowels moving along.

Juice cleansing is a popular trend currently going on to help lose that extra bit of fat. Obviously, this is a very favourable for postpartum moms looking to get back to their old bodies as fast as possible. However, some of these juice cleanses can be harmful for both the mother and infant if you are breastfeeding and if done improperly. In some cases – if done at all. Here are a things to consider if you are thinking of starting a juice cleanse or series.
A juice cleanse can differ in definition depending on person to person, but most recognize it as a short term period where you subtract all food and drink from your diet other than certain juices and smoothies. According to Eat This, a juice cleanse is “a ‘detox’ diet that can last from a few days to several weeks in which a person consumes only fruit and vegetable juices to obtain nutrition while otherwise abstaining from eating food.” This is similar to a fad called the lemonade diet which proved to be an effective way to lose weight in a short amount of time whilst detoxing your liver, kidneys etc. These cleanses, however, are not to be confused with “detox teas” of which are meant to be taken on an irregular basis.
Here are the pros and cons to consider if you are thinking of starting a juice cleanse or series.

Can Smoking While Breastfeeding Hurt Your Baby
Yes. Dont smoke if youre breastfeeding. Nicotine is a drug found in cigarettes. It passes to your baby in breast milk and can cause problems, like:
- Making your baby fussy
- Making it hard for your baby to sleep
- Reducing your milk supply so your baby may not get all the milk he needs
Secondhand smoke also is bad for your baby. Secondhand smoke is smoke from someone elses cigarette, cigar or pipe. It can cause lung and breathing problems. Babies of mothers who smoke are more likely than babies of non-smokers to die from sudden infant death syndrome . SIDS is the unexplained death of a baby younger than 1 year old.
If you do smoke, its OK to breastfeed. But smoke as little as possible and dont smoke around your baby.
