The First Day Of Your 3 Day Juice Cleanse
Everyones experience with a juice cleanse is different, and detox symptoms can vary based on how toxic our bodies are to begin with and how quickly our bodies release these toxins. Generally, the first day of a juice cleanse is relatively easy, at least for the first few hours. Youll start your morning with one cold pressed juice, alongside eight ounces of water with lemon. If youre used to a hearty breakfast, you may feel a bit sluggish, but this feeling should subside after your first juice. Those who are avid caffeine drinkers usually experience the worst symptoms, including headaches, sluggishness and irritability, as the body is not used to functioning without that daily dose of caffeine. We usually recommend cleansers wean off of caffeine in the days leading up to a cleanse, to make their experience easier.
Many cleansers report missing the act of chewing, and the routine of a meal, especially on the first day of a cleanse, since the body is not yet in cleansing mode and the digestive system is still humming along. Our bodies are hardwired in their routines, so if you are accustomed to three meals a day, your body will notice if you skip one. Be gentle with yourself, but if you have the nagging urge to chew something simply because youre used to three meals, remind yourself of your goals and why you decided to cleanse in the first place.
You Can Start Eating Proteins And Gluten
Start to reintroduce animal protein and dairy, if you choose to. Consider steamed fish in place of meat, and goats milk products in place of cows milk, at least in the beginning. Try to incorporate a green drink into your daily routine. This will help keep the system running smoothly and keep the acidity away.
Remember to chew your food. This is where digestion starts. While you are chewing, digestive enzymes are released. These enzymes help to break down protein, fats and carbs so they can be properly absorbed. Tip: Put down your fork and knife after every bite and chew fully.
What Do You Need To Make Homemade Juice For The Cleanse
Not surprisingly, one of the keys to a great juice cleanse is your juicer. While you can get benefits from most juicers, youll get the greatest cleanse benefits from cold-pressed juices. A centrifugal juicer will juice your veggies and fruits more quickly, but the cold-pressed juicer will extract more nutrients. From a nutrient-rich standpoint, opt for the cold-pressed juicer. Of course, either type of juicer will get the job done!
While you could use a blender to break down your vegetables, youll be making smoothies rather than juices. Were big fans of delicious, nutritious smoothies, and you could do a variation of your cleanse with them. But theyre a little different than juice drinks, which are often easier to digest.

What About Caffeine Withdrawals
Caffeine withdrawals are very common if you reduce the amount of caffeine you drink, or you stop drinking it cold tofu.Common symptoms include headache, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and irritability just to name a few.If you experience these symptoms, here are a couple of things you can do:
Claim 2 It Eases Headaches
Headaches and migraines have been ranked worldwide as major contributors to disability in those under 50 years old .
Hence, its common to find multiple home remedies for their treatment. Still, research is very divided when it comes to the use of coffee for this purpose.
One hypothesis suggests that the caffeine in coffee has a vasoconstrictor effect meaning that it tightens your blood vessels which reduces blood flow toward your head and relieves the pain .
Research also suggests that caffeine can amplify the effects of medication used for headaches and migraines .
Yet, another hypothesis believes that caffeine may act as a headache trigger for some, along with other beverages and foods, such as chocolate, alcohol, and citrus fruits like lemons .
Therefore, drinking coffee with lemon may either relieve or worsen a headache. And if it does help reduce pain, it would be again due to the caffeine in coffee, not the coffee and lemon drink itself.

Are Juice Cleanses Healthy
Any eating plan designed to increase your intake of leafy greens and phytonutrients can help boost your immune system. But the health benefits of the cleanse really depend on the types of juices you use. If you stick to the greens and veggies like celery with a low-glycemic index, youll feel a lot better than if youre downing the higher-sugar fruit juices.
If you have any questions, check with your medical professional or nutritionist if you doubt whether or not this is the right choice for you.
Coffee Helping Or Harming You
Coffee is the second most popular drink worldwide with over 400 million cups downed a day by Americans alone. The statistics on coffee obsession are staggering, but not surprising if you catch a glimpse of the local Starbucks line around 8 in the morning. Of all the things to be obsessed with, coffee seems to be a safer option. Most of us have not truly thought twice about the long term effects of our daily coffee run. However, most people would be shocked to know that the coffee bean is the most heavily sprayed bean in the produce market. It is loaded with toxic chemicals that affect not only the crop itself, but the environment and the people around it. Due to coffee being in such high demand, it is essential that this issue be addressed for both our own health and the sake of the environment around us. We sat down with an expert in coffee chemistry, Dr. Hendon, on the Be Organic Podcast to talk about the science behind coffee. Check it out here!
Coffee is an addiction for most of us and not something many are willing to compromise on, but give yourself a few weeks, make substitutions to use organic beans and natural sweeteners. You will feel so much better, there is a good chance you will not want to go back.

Making Your Blood More Acidic
Your pH level explains how acidic or alkaline your blood is.
The lower your pH level , the more acidic your blood is. The higher your pH level is , the more alkaline your blood is.
The current American diet is very acidic.
Thats because its loaded with unhealthy foods like sugars, processed ingredients, and carbonated beverages. An acidic diet like that can increase your risk of kidney stones, chronic diseases, and degeneration of the body.
Your blood pH level usually hovers around 7.0. .
What That Means
A juicing cleanse is meant to make your body more alkaline.
Opposite of an acidic diet, an alkaline diet has plenty of positive effects, such as reducing the loss of calcium in the muscles and bones. That means boosting your pH level can help you to maintain or improve your muscle mass and bone density.
Its also known to lower your risk of developing cancer.
The problem is that coffee is somewhat acidic.
In a way, drinking coffee when on a juice cleanse can make achieving this alkaline state a lot more difficult. It also means that you might not see the impressive health effects that youre currently looking for.
Claim 3 It Relieves Diarrhea
This remedy calls for eating ground coffee with lemon instead of drinking it.
Still, theres currently no evidence to support the use of lemon to treat diarrhea, and coffee stimulates your colon, which increases your need to poop .
Additionally, diarrhea causes a significant loss of fluids that can lead to dehydration, which coffees diuretic effect may worsen (
However, you may still take advantage of these benefits by consuming coffee and lemons separately, as no evidence suggests that the effect is only exerted when the two are mixed.
Coffee seems to be responsible for most of the purported benefits of drinking coffee with lemon, though lemons also play an important role in the skin care claims. Yet, no evidence suggests that they should be consumed together for greater benefits.

How Much Green Juice Should You Drink A Day
Since I am not a doctor, I cannot tell you how much green juice to drink, but I know for myself that less is best when starting out.
If you are detoxing for the first time you may feel side effects, so start with small amounts to begin with.

I currently use a BELLA 13694 High Power Juice Extractor , but I used to use a Champion juicer . If you plan on juicing a lot, I would recommend investing in a good quality juicer, like the Champion.
Since I don’t juice as often as I used to, I bought the Bella, which costs less. The Bella still does what I need it to do. My Champion bit the dust since I didn’t take as good of care of it as I could have.
One thing I really liked about the Champion, is it had a blank, which enabled me to make desserts like Banana Ice cream with Peanut Butter Syrup , so it all depends on what you are going to use it for and how often.
Wednesday: Cleanse Day Three
For the first time ever, I wanted a cleanse to last forever. I was in the zone. My brain was working overtime. I described my thought process as lightening, because I felt like things were happening and connecting quickly.
7:45 am: Kill Shot, this Immune booster isnt new to me. When I get my winter cold, I reach for bone broth and a handful of these and Im generally feeling better in no time. Its made with oil of oregano, which is a natural antibiotic. Camu camu berry, another key ingredient and a superfood that is funny to say, but also has the highest vitamin C content in a fruit known to man. This shot also includes medicinal grade turmeric curcumin to bring down inflammation and raw local honey to fight seasonal allergies.
8 am: Bullet Proof with Collagen, Maca and Mucuna. This was meant to support the adrenals and prime the nervous system. It was still delicious and I wasnt ready for it to be over.
10 am: G8, more fruit-free green juice. By the third day, I was craving sugar less, so this was growing on me.
12:30 am: I drank the dandy greens, sip-by-sip, dandy greens became my favorite green juice in all of the green juices.
1:00 pm: I ate an entire avocado and some baby carrots. My hunger-staver-offer for the duration of the cleanse. I never really confirmed with Melissa if eat an entire avocado is what she meant when she said, if youre hungry, eat some fruit or veggies! I maintain that this was still in-bounds.

Cut Out Unexpected Caffeine Sources
We dont expect you to cut out the coffee cold turkey, thats crazy talk. Actually, coffee may not be your only source of caffeine that you should consider clearing out leading up to your cleanse.
Start by eliminating those not-so-obvious sources of caffeine such as:
- Caffeinated teas
- Coffee liqueurs
Thats rightdecaf coffee! Depending on where its sourced from, it may have anywhere from 0.1% 3% caffeine. This amount can be too much for those with sensitivities or if youre looking to really clean out your diet.We recommend cutting out your caffeine intake the week leading up to your juice cleanse but the best method is to taper down gradually. This helps curb any nasty withdrawal symptoms and gives your body time to adjust.

Tips For Enjoying Coffee
If you want to embark on a coffee cleanse, or simply pick up a coffee habit for the health benefits of the drink, you’re probably going to encounter the stereotype that black coffee is dark, bitter, and unpleasant. And, the truth is, that’s correct. Plain black coffee, especially the stuff you get at a grocery store or fast food joint, is typically burned beyond all recognition.
More importantly, dark roasted coffee is worse than light or “lean” roasts. Light roasts keep many of the nutrients, phenols, and other compounds intact. Dark roasts burn away a lot of those benefits and leave you with a bitter tasting coffee. In fact, even the bitterness comes from the dark roast a light roast is less bitter and a lot more flavorful, and also has more caffeine. If you’re sensitive to caffeine and prefer the bitterness, you may like dark roasts better.
So, here are our tips for enjoying coffee as part of a cleanse.
And, of course, make sure to balance your nutrition for the rest of your cleanse. Drink plenty of water, eat enough calories of healthy food to survive, and try to pivot into a healthier diet overall when you’re done.

It Blocks Sleep Receptors In Your Brain
Adenosine is a molecule that helps with sleep. While the name may sound fancy, how it works is pretty straight forward. Adenosine is a product of digestion, and binds to specific cell receptors in the brain to slow down cell activity causing sleepiness.
Caffeine is known as an adenosine blocker. This means that when caffeine enters your system it binds to the adenosine receptors and instead of slowing cell activity, it speeds it up. Caffeine is playing tricks on your brain and in turn gives you a perceived boost of energy. This is also why caffeine can prevent you from getting a solid nights rest.

It Stops Your Brain From Letting You Sleep
A molecule called adenosine helps people sleep. Even though the name sounds fancy, the way it works is pretty simple. Adenosine is a byproduct of digestion. When it binds to certain cell receptors in the brain, it slows down the activity of those cells, which makes you feel sleepy.
Adenosine blockers are things like caffeine. This means that when caffeine gets into your body, it binds to adenosine receptors and speeds up cell activity instead of slowing it down. Caffeine tricks your brain into thinking it has more energy, so you feel like you have more energy. This is also why caffeine can make it hard to sleep well at night.
Coffee And Juice Detoxes
Q: How do I start the detox program if I have a cup of coffee habit in the morning? A: Hi Lidia! It’s not recommended to have caffeine if you are doing a juice cleanse. It’s best to give yourself a break from these acidic beverages if possible. Coffee is highly acidic and works against the cleansing energy in your body. Try replacing your coffee with a energy packed green juice or herbal tea. While this might be hard at first, if you stick with it, you should be able to overcome the urge to drink it in a few days and feel great without it. When we ingest caffeine, it gets absorbed throughout our body and it affects our organs, and interferes with natural processes in our body. It can be hard on the liver and it’s ability to burn fat and cleanse out toxins. It also can lead to increased levels of cortisol , which can lead to increased fat storage. If you must drink something, switch to green tea or white tea , which is much less than a typical cup of coffee. I hear many stories from my readers that green juice has done wonders in helping them kick their coffee habits. Maybe this can work for you as well.Sorry to bring you bad news about caffeine during your juice cleanse.Good luck and happy juicing!
