Dermatologist Choice Ph Balanced Cleanser

What Is Double Cleansing

WHY YOUR CLEANSER pH IS NOT WORKING FOR YOU| DR DRAY

The double cleansing method for washing your face is twofold. The first cleanser is oil-based that will remove makeup as well as dirt and oil. These oil cleansers consist of non-comedogenic oils, such as sweet almond or sunflower oil, so they will not clog your pores and cause acne.

The benefits of using oil are that it will attract unwanted oil to remove it and it is better at breaking down makeup products. If you do not like the idea of using oil on your face, micellar water works well too and it is less messy than using oil. Some may find micellar water more irritating than an oil cleanser.

The second cleanser will remove whatever dirt and oil are remaining to ensure a super clean palette. This cleanser is selected based on your skin type. So if you have dry skin, it will hydrate it. If you have oily skin, it will help treat your acne.

Can I Test The Ph Of My Products

If you are not sure what the pH of your products is and it does not tell you the pH on the label, you can purchase pH test strips inexpensively on Amazon and test it yourself. It is simple, quick, and easy to do.

You just dip the test strip in your product for the appropriate amount of time and the paper will change color. You compare the color to the chart they give and it will tell you the pH of your product.

Why Cant I Use Bar Soap On My Face

There are 4 different types of cleansers, one of which is true soap or bar soap. These are a mixture of fat and alkali which has a pH of about 9-11. They are fantastic at removing dirt and oil, but they also strip away too much of your natural oils and can dehydrate your skin.

They are too alkaline for your skin, which is naturally acidic. By changing the natural pH of your skin, it can lead to problems with a barrier function. Our skins barrier serves to prevents dehydration and keeps out harmful microbes.

In addition to the obvious reason for cleansing your skin, which is to remove dirt, oil, and bacteria, it also provides a clean palette upon which you can apply your other products, such as anti-oxidant serums.

It offers better penetration of the products that you will apply next so that they work better for your skin. If your skin is covered with a layer of dirt and oil, nothing will penetrate. There is no point in wasting your time or money on products if they do not have the opportunity to work correctly.

S For Spring Cleaning Your Skincare Routine

Spring is traditionally a time of renewal, cleaning, and making space for the good things in life to shine. Well guess what, this applies to your skin as well as your home all it takes is 3 steps and 15-minutes: cleanse , renew , and glow .

1. Cleanse

Ah yes, that moment you wash your face after an exhilarating workout or at the start of a new day. Its that bright-eyed, ready-to-conquer-anything kind of feeling.

Dermatologist Dr. B. explains that cleaning your skin daily is critical to remove oil, dust, grime, allergens, and bacteria to prevent your skin from getting infected or breaking out. Did you know that bacteria feed on fatty acids? This includes the oil on your skin. Gross! And when bacteria clogs your pores, breakouts appear. Having clean skin isnt only great for that fresh feeling, but also for keeping your face healthy and your pores bacteria-free.

Dr. B. reminds us, Just as important as using enough soap is using the right soap, one that will completely remove oil, dirt, and make-up. However, he cautions not to scrub the skin too hard or use scrubs with beads or sugars. These can irritate, scratch, or even scar the skin. Instead, he says, use your hands or a soft cloth, and use more soap rather than more scrubbing. When youre doing your daily clean, use a gentle but effective cleanser, such as Dermatologists Choice pH Balanced Cleanser.

2. Renew
3. Glow

Do I Have To Wash My Face Twice A Day If I Have Dry Skin

Washing your face twice a day is important. It is important to wash your face in the morning to remove the oil and dead skin cells that have been generated during the night. It is equally as important to wash your face at night to remove the dirt, oil, dead skin cells, bacteria, makeup, toxins, and pollutants that have appeared during the day.

If you use the right face cleanser for dry skin, you will not further dry out your skin. In fact, the right ingredients will add moisture to your dry skin and help it.

How To Tell If A Cleanser Is Low Ph

Dermatologist’s Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser (Time for Fresh Skin!) [2019]

So, we know that a low pH cleanser is the right choice for most skin types, but how do we know when a cleanser has a low pH? If the pH of the product isn’t on the label then the best way to tell is whether or not the cleanser is pH balanced is to see if it bubbles or foams, which means its a high pH cleanser, says Dr. Rita Linkner.” If it’s cream-based and gentle, then its a low pH wash. So, the fewer the suds, the lower the pH, in most cases. Low pH cleansing formulas to look out for include gel, cream, and milk varieties. Additionally, products marked pH balanced have been formulated to mimic the skins natural pH level, and wont raise your skins pH level.

Are The Claims Backed By Science

Overall, the science behind understanding physiological skin pH is not a new concept with the acidic nature of the skin surface first determined in 1892. Scientists, researchers, and medical professionals have not only confirmed but aligned with the following:

  • Skin pH is normally acidic, ranging in pH of 46
  • The bodys internal environment maintains a near-neutral pH
  • Endogenous and exogenous factors affect skin pH.

Still, it was very frustrating when it actually came time to find products that not only claimed to be pH-balanced or low pH but also included the actual pH of the final formulation!

So be forewarned.

We believe that its an important step for brands to be pH conscious if this is the primary focus of the effectiveness of their product. But dont just say pH balanced or low pH and remain mysterious regarding the pH itself.

If brands are going to talk the talk then shouldnt brands, walk the walk?

Until then, if the pH of a product remains important to your skincare routine, then I suppose purchasing pH strips or a self-calibrating pH meter in your arsenal might be worth the investment.

A ridiculous measure, in my personal opinion, in order to perform a due diligence check of your product of choice. This is something that we, as consumers, should not have to perform or confirm. But I digress

What Does Low Ph Mean

pH is a measure in the chemistry of the concentration and activity of the hydrogen atoms in a solution. It is measured from 0-14, with 7 being neutral. Numbers below 7 are acidic, and numbers above 7 are alkaline or basic.

The lower the number, the higher the concentration of hydrogen atoms, and the more acidic the solution is. Our skin functions best at slightly acidic levels, at about 5. If you alter the pH of the skin, it will not function properly.

It will lead to dehydration, inflammation and irritation, lack of shedding of dead skin cells, and infections from pathogenic microbes. It can worsen certain skin conditions like acne and eczema.

The Ideal Ph For Skincare Products

ACWELL No. 5.5 Bubble

Your skin is the most functional at its natural pH level , which means you want your skincare products to feature an identical or close pH. What happens if you use a cleanser that isnt pH balanced? Your skins pH levels become compromised, which can lead to a slew of skin problems.

Foaming washes bring the skin’s pH to 10 while non-foaming creamy washes leave the skin at its natural pH,” explains Dr. Palep. A cleanser or product containing a high pH could possibly lead to symptoms like dryness, clogged pores, and acne on certain skin types.

How We Chose These Products

These 5 low pH cleansers were chosen for many reasons. These are all highly trusted brands that deliver quality products by using evidence-based ingredients. Some have been around for a long time.

Extensive research is conducted on these ingredients and products to ensure they are top quality before they made it to this list. Also, there are numerous good reviews on all these products and very few negative reviews.

In this group of cleansers, you can find something for every budget. They range from expensive to reasonably priced. You dont always have to spend a lot of money to get a good cleanser if you know what ingredients to look for and you select the right one for your skin type.

They are all low pH cleansers, so they will not upset the acidic nature of your skin. This acidity keeps the barrier function of the skin working properly and keeps your skin healthy.

These cleansers all contain quality ingredients and you can find one to benefit every skin type. Not only do they cleanse the skin, but some target oily skin to prevent blackheads and acne.

Some contain antioxidants to help protect the skin and prevent premature aging. Some have anti-inflammatory properties to calm and soothe sensitive, irritated skin and moisturizers to hydrate dry skin.

The Benefits Of Using A Low Ph Cleanser

  • Typically Non-Drying: Low pH cleansers tend to feature a gel, milk, or cream texture, which might be less drying than a foam .
  • Better for Those With Eczema: At the lower pH, the lipids within the skin are preserved, which is better for those who are prone to eczema or dryness, explains Dr. Palep.
  • Protects the Skin’s Acid Mantle: The acid mantle is a thin, acidic layer of film that sits on top of the skin. This layer is made up of oil, sweat, and fatty acids, and works to protect the skin from potentially harmful bacteria and viruses that may disrupt the condition of your complexion. According to a 2018 study, low pH cleansers may positively affect skin conditions and improve concerns like acne, eczema, and aging.

That said, not all cleansers that have a high pH are necessarily bad, especially for those with specific skin concerns that can tolerate a more alkaline and drying substance. Higher pH cleansers are more like detergents that clean the skin thoroughly these are the best in oily skin which can withstand dehydration of a cleanser that acts like a surfactant, Dr. Palep adds. In oily skin, where sebum re-establishes itself within 20 minutes of cleansing, high pH cleansers are acceptable.

Ingredients To Look For

Why is pH Balance so Important? | The Importance of pH Balance for Healthy Skin | Wishtrend TV

When you are looking for a cleanser, look for these ingredients based on your skin type.

Oily skin:

  • Look for oil-controlling ingredients, such as alcohol, witch hazel, jojoba oil, or alpha hydroxy acids.

Dry or sensitive skin:

  • Look for moisturizing ingredients, such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid, and anti-inflammatory ingredients, such as sunflower or coconut oil.

All types:

  • The optimal time to start anti-aging ingredients in 20-30s. This is when your collagen production starts to decrease. Look for antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, that can scavenge free radicals produced by UV from the sun which can damage collagen and lead to wrinkles. Retinoids and alpha hydroxy acids are also good for anti-aging but need to be used with caution if you have dry or sensitive skin.

My Review Of Dermatologists Choice Skin Care

I have NEVER used a line that has produced as fast results as the Dermatologists Choice skin care line. This line has literally brought my skin back to life. After weeks of noticing my skin looking dull and tired, I decided it was time to do something. I have had several people tell my how healthy my skin looks and I have to credit these fabulous products for doing the trick! The 4 products I used have been the pH Balanced Cleanser , the Glycolic Peel Cleansing Pads with Salicylic Acid , the Sunscreen Enhanced Moisturizer and the Facial Enhancement Cream .

The pH balanced cleanser is probably one of the nicest cleansers I have used. It is not harsh and honestly feels like I am just washing with water. It is a cleanser that cleans deep and releases all the dirt and grime that our skin takes in from the environment. I love that this cleanser does its job without drying my skin out and irritating it.

If I had to name a favorite from the line it is most definitely the Glycolic cleansing pads. I am obsessed yall. These pads I am convinced are the one thing that has changed my skin. My skin looks instantly brighter and cleaner when I use them. The pads have green tea extract which helps firm the skin not to mention the antioxidant punch it provides. I honestly cannot recommend them enough if you want to see instant results.
