Vitamins Don’t Get Delivered Like They Should
You know how a tangerine can help your body absorb the iron in spinach? That kind of food-combo teamwork is a real thing and can be really affected by a juice cleanse. “Good fats are very important for the correct functioning of our body’s internal processes. Removing these from the diet can mean the body can’t perform at its optimum level,” says nutrition expert Emma Brown.”For example, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, K and E require fats in the diet in order to be absorbed. If your diet does not include some fat, the uptake of these vitamins from food will be limited.”
I Tried A 2 Day Juice Cleanse And Heres What Happened
I decided to ditch alcohol. For good. I will talk about this more in another blog post later on, but for now, I wanted to give my body a true reset from the alcohol, processed foods, stress, and environmental toxins that have been plaguing it for months. I know my body has taken a beating because I wake up after 10 hours of rest feeling sluggish and fatigued. I knew I HAD to make a change and do something.
Why a juice cleanse? Isnt that a fad, you may ask? Well, it depends on how you look at it. Many turn to cleanses as a quick fix for weightloss and this is not a cure for that. Sure, you will lose a few pounds, but it will only be water weight which is likely to come back. I chose a juice cleanse because it:
I chose the Raw Juicery company-I am not sponsored by them. There are sooo many juice companies with cleanses you can buy and get sent straight to your door. I read some reviews and just chose one on a whim because the drinks included looks to be right up my alley. They offered a 2 or 3 day and I chose 2 days so this is what I did:
8:00 AM. The first juice of the day is celery juice with lemon. Celery is a natural diuretic that helps with constipation, inflammation, and puffiness. Celery juice also helps raise stomach acid, which is necessary to help break down food, especially protein. I was a little afraid to drink this at first because the thought of celery juice sounds yucky, but it was actually okay!
Your trainer and friend,
Youll Lose Muscle Mass
When you lose weight, you inevitably lose a bit of muscle mass. You can reduce muscle loss by eating more protein and working out. But juice doesnt contain protein, and its so low in calories that you likely wont have the energy to work out. If all you do is drink juice for a week, you can lose muscle, says Maples.

What Is The Best Juice 3

While many people, websites, and videos may tell you that they have cracked the code and figured out the best 3-day juice detox, in truth there is no such thing. This eating plan is most definitely a starvation-type diet that should really not be attempted by anyone. Please note that:
- If you are using the 3-day juice detox as a weight loss hack, there are other healthier ways to do this. Please remember that healthy and sustainable weight loss is only achievable through long-term lifestyle, exercise, and dietary changes something that cannot come about on the 3-day juice detox weight loss plan.
Instead of trying this fasting fad diet to lose weight, try instead to make healthier eating choices like going on a calorie deficit, eating healthier foods, practicingintuitive eating and working out at least 3 times a week.
- If you are using this juice cleanse as a means to detoxify your body, you can do the same through much healthier ways that do not require you to only live on fruit and vegetable juices as well as water for 72 consecutive hours.

When Is The Best Time To Cleanse
Seasonal shifts such as Winter into Spring or Summer into Fall are excellent times to cleanse when the nature is also naturally transitioning. These are times when nature naturally provides us with the perfect ingredients we need to cleanse for that particular season. A Spring cleanse for example should be filled with young bitter sprouts and leafy greens that help us cleanse from the previous, heavier winter months. Summer into Fall should focus more on cooling and hydrating, detoxifying fruits and vegetables such as cucumbers, apples and melons that help cleanse the blood and liver.
Cleansing during the Winter can be a challenge if you live in a colder climate because your body is trying to conserve energy. This doesnt mean a cleanse is not possible but you may find it beneficial to add warming soups, stews, additional fats and warming spices to your cleansing diet.

Benefits Of Juice Cleanses
Proponents of juice cleanses say that people dont eat many vegetables and fruits. Going on a juice cleanse means these people are now bringing extra nutrients, phytochemicals, antioxidants, and other compounds to improve their overall health by drinking 38 juices a day .
People do lose weight on juice cleanses due to calorie restriction and water weight. However, this weight loss doesnt last too long. Once you start eating again, you may gain all the weight you lost .
20 participants in a 3-day juice cleanse study had an average weight loss of just under four pounds . After two weeks, they had gained back almost half that weightabout two pounds . There was a side benefit to the juice fast, though. Some study participants increased their good gut bacteria and decreased the amount of illness-causing bacteria .
Some people have been struggling with weight loss and do lose weight on a juice cleanse. A kickstart to weight loss can give some people a sense of accomplishment and motivation to continue losing weight .
Other people believe that juice cleanses help them shrink their stomachs and also helps to motivate them to eat less food once they go back to eating regularly .
You Could Damage Your Liver
The effects of too much sugar or fructose can be likened to the effects of alcohol: It severely taxes and overloads the organ, leading to potential liver damage. Juicers should be conscious of this because many pre-packaged juices found at the store contain high amounts of sugar. Homemade juice recipes also call for multiple servings of fruit to help make the drink taste more appealing, but this increases the sugar content, says White.

Diy Juice Cleanse Juices
- Spicy Roots Juice
- Chocolate Almond Milk
My one day juice cleanse has six different homemade juices. Ideally, you drink one when you first wake up, then another every 2 hours afterwards.
I like to start my day with the vanilla almond milk, then head into the greens later in the morning. The orange & carrot juice along with the citrus & pineapple are a nice midday pick-me-up. Spicy roots is practically my dinner, then the chocolate almond milk is perfect for a pre-bedtime snack that satisfies sweet carvings.
Worried about not getting enough calories or protein during this one day juice cleanse? Add some vanilla protein powder to the vanilla almond milk and chocolate protein powder to the chocolate version.

Some Good Juice Cleanse Eating Options
If you want to cleanse after a particularly rich period of eating, like from Halloween to New Years, every year, for us, then its probably because you may have been overindulging in things like sweets, fried foods, highly processed food, restaurant food, or really fatty foods.
So, if you want to keep your cleanse healthy and cleansing, then the big thing is just to avoid these foods.
That leaves a vast world of whole-food ingredients that you can still enjoy.
And if you wanna go hard, you could even keep it raw vegan with things like big ol salads with oily vinaigrette dressing or raw trail mix to snack on.
But we think its a good idea to use a juice cleanse as an opportunity to adopt some more sustainable, nutritious eating habits while supplementing with some yummy fresh juice.
For you, that may look like eating one homemade meal for dinner with your juices when you usually grab fast food on the way home from work. Or it may look like drinking juice or having a small meal at regular mealtimes when maybe you skip meals and eat much later.
Here are some healthy, minimally processed foods you may want to nosh on while juice cleansing:
- proteins like salmon, tuna, shellfish, eggs, chickpeas, lentils, or tofu
- fats and oils, including coconut oil, olive oil, and avocado oil
- fruits, veggies, nuts, or seeds
- grains and starches like potatoes, sweet potatoes, oats, quinoa, barley, or rice
How To Prepare A Juice Cleanse & Tips

Juice cleanse advocates claim that nutrients, phytochemicals, and antioxidants are more readily absorbed by the body in liquid form. However, research on the bioavailability of raw juices versus that of whole fruits or vegetables is mixed.
To optimize nutrient absorption, proponents recommend drinking juice slowly rather than gulping it down. Juice is typically consumed a couple of hours apart, with the final drink of the day at least three hours before bedtime. A schedule might look like this:
- When you wake up: Lukewarm water with a splash of fresh lemon juice
- 8 to 9 a.m.: Juice, such as a green vegetable juice
- 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.: Juice
- 1 to 2 p.m.: Juice
- 3 to 4 p.m.: Juice, such as beet, carrot, and apple juice
- 5 to 6 p.m.: Juice
- 6 to 8 p.m.: Smoothie or almond or cashew nut milk
During a juice cleanse, you should also:
Some people find it easier to make juice at the beginning or end of the day and to prepare enough for one full day. Although juice should be consumed as close to the time of juicing as possible, juice can be temporarily stored in covered glass or BPA-free cups or bottles.

Cons Of The Juice Cleanse Diet
While drinking freshly juiced fruits and vegetables may have many health benefits, consuming nothing but juice for three days or more is not necessarily healthy or sustainable in the long term. Any health benefits gained are only temporary.
- Promotes unhealthy eating habits: A 2017 research review determined that juicing or detoxification diets work for quick weight loss but tend to lead to weight gain once a regular diet is resumed. A juice cleanse a short-term fast that severely restricts calories and labels many solid foods as “unhealthy,” which could lead to disordered eating. Additionally, research shows that a juice cleanse may pose certain health risks.
- May cause kidney stones: Many juices are made from dark, leafy greens and beets. These two foods are high in oxalate, which may cause kidney stones and other problems.
- May cause low blood sugar: The juice cleanse is low in calories and may cause low blood sugar, which can be dangerous for people with diabetes and hypoglycemia. Symptoms of low blood sugar include dizziness, fainting, weakness, shakiness, headaches, and hunger.
- May cause bacterial infections: Drinking unpasteurized juice or juice that has not been otherwise treated to kill bacteria can make some people sick. This is mainly a problem for people with chronic illnesses, older people, and young children. If you are making your own juice, wash the produce properly before juicing. Store unused juice in a tightly sealed container and drink within 24 hours.

Why might someone consider juicing? According to Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of The Super Immunity Diet, juicing helps unleash the natural healing power of the body. Juicing floods your system with powerful nutrients and antioxidants. It may also help retrain your taste buds to enjoy healthy fruits and vegetables, making it the first step toward a long-lasting lifestyle change, or jumpstarting a weight-loss regimen. Dr. Fuhrman also says juicing can be beneficial for people with elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure, and those suffering from autoimmune diseases, like arthritis, digestive problems, and skin conditions.

A Word From Nutritionist
The juice cleanse diet might not be the best idea to lose weight. There is insufficient evidence to suggest that only drinking juice can help your body burn fat.
If you want to reach your body weight goals, find cardio-based workouts and diets that promote healthy eating. Never starve yourself or eat below 1,000 calories on your fitness journey.
You can still try juice cleansing for 23 days to feel clean. This will help you avoid consuming refined foods or drinking too much alcohol, which increases bad gut bacteria. Dont go over the 3-day limit, as this diet will deprive you of natural nutrients from solid-based foods.
