Dr Mark Hyman returned to the show to explain that you dont have to see a cleanse as an endurance test or punishment. This is about getting the body feeling better. Sometimes we get so set in negative routines that we dont realize or remember how good we are able to feel when we have the right nutrients in our bodies.

Plant-based dietitian Julieanna Hever said that most of us miss out on the nutrients in our food because we dont chew our bites well enough. That means were not getting all the nutrients from the cell walls of plant based foods. Thats why throwing veggies in a blender can deliver such a highly concentrated nutrient punch.

Happy New Year everyone! I know, I know. Ive already posted this year so this isnt technically my first new years post, BUT, this is the big one Ive been waiting for. Every new year countless amounts of people start their year off with diets or detoxing in hopes of a fresh new start and determination in reaching their goals.
I am 100% here for and supportive of fresh starts and developing a healthier eating life style, but personally, I cant stand the diet trends. Ive done Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, the Insanity diet along with the workouts, Keto, Arbonne and I hated them all. I admit, thats a strong word, but looking back they all made me miserable.
If any of these have worked for you Im happy for you, truly, but I just cant justify being miserable and hungry all the time to lose weight. It didnt make me feel better about myself and that was my main goal. And over the years, after trying diet fads and taking certain foods out of my daily diet, within this past year something clicked for me. It wasnt my physical appearance that I wanted to feel better about, its what was inside. Cliché, I know, but really! Its mental clarity and more energy that I crave for every new year.
So of course, I decided to document the whole thing to share it with you guys, as well as the products we used to recommend getting if you dont already have them.

Meals A Day With Green Veggies

Eat three meals each of the three days. Focus on green veggies, and add as many as you want to your meal! Dr. Oz loves kale, and other great choices include spinach, broccoli, Brussell sprouts, Swiss chard and peas. Add plant-based protein, such as nuts or beans, to round out the meal.

Giada said breakfast could be a smoothie, scrambled eggs with asparagus or other green, or chia seed pudding, which you can make the night before.

“In the morning you’ve got this lovely, decadent breakfast item loaded with fruits, especially berries, which I think are fantastic, and Marcona almonds, which I love because they’re cooked in olive oil and salt. They give you richness, so you don’t feel you’re going to starve the rest of the day and you feel full,” she said.

For lunch, try white beans with sauteed broccoli rabe. Beans are a “great source” of protein that’s filling, Giada said.

“You feel you’re eating. The thing that I always felt a lot of these reboots would do is that you had to have a lot of just basically soups or just plain shakes or smoothies. I can’t live on liquid only. I need food to sustain myself,” she said.

Suggestions For Doing The Dr Oz 3 Day Detox

  • Freeze the fruit. When it is cold and icy, it literally tastes somuch better.
  • If you can, start on a weekend or on a day when you are home, especially if you are a smoothie-novice like me. I brought all of my appliances to school, made a mess in my classroom trying to cut the veggies, pulverize first, then blend it all together. If I had practiced at home, it would have gone smoother.
  • If you arent home, cut as much as you can ahead of time, put all of the ingredients in baggies, and then in a larger bag. That made it easier to just grab the big bag with all ingredients and go.
  • The lunch shake was hugefourcups. I definitely suggest cutting the recipe down or eating some of the veggies first.
  • Drinking with a straw makes it taste better. Im serious! It does!

Results Of The Cleanse :

1. Weight loss. I lost 5 lbs. Although Im not an advocate of rapid weight loss, I am an advocate of jump starting a system to healthiness again. This cleanse resets your healthy button.

2. Fast lips. Your added energy will add a little hop in your step and speed to your lips. Youll think clearer. You may possibly become a motor mouth. Your lips will definitely move faster.

3. Energy. Although I had a lot of energy most of the time during the cleanse, I didnt have it all the time. By the middle of day two, I definitely needed a nap. Its a perfect opportunity to rest and read the book thats staring at you from the nightstand making you feel all guilty.

4. Spending money. Dr. Oz says its $16 a day for the cleanse. Uhhhm. No. Maybe if you live on a banana plantation overlooking a field of vitamins.

I begged Michael to do the grocery shopping for the cleanse because its efffing cold winter.

Stepping outside in winter goes against my strict winter hibernation policy.

Judging by Michaels curved eyebrow and stink eye, after returning from the grocery store Im guessing that the grocery bill was pricey. Michael typically reserves the stink eye for special moments like that.

5. Bloating. I looked like I was having a baby at the end of day one of the cleanse. I considered telling Michael that I was having Brad Pitts baby. He knows how fond I am of Brad. By day two, the belly was gone. Brad and I are very happy parents.

My Experience With The Dr Oz Detox Cleanse

After my Master-Cleanse scare, in line with keeping my Get Healthy Challenge goals, I decided to do the Dr. Oz 3-Day Detox Cleanse.

Comparing the two, Dr. Oz was definitely easier than the Master Cleanse. Lemonade with maple syrup and cayenne for 10 days vs. smoothies for 3 days?

Yeah, thats a no brainer.

Dr Oz: Whole Food Energy Boost Cleanse

Dr. Oz also showed Karens Vine video, where she talked about the benefits of the Whole Food Energy Boost Cleanse, which helps give you lots of energy.

For this cleanse, for 10 days, you cant have caffeine or carbs. This cleanse also called for a breakfast smoothie made of almond milk, almond butter, coconut butter, blueberries, cranberries, avocado, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and 1/2 lemon.

Dr. Oz talked to Dr. Mark Hyman, who created the Whole Food Energy Boost Clenase. Dr. Hyman said he was really excited that his cleanse had gone viral and suggested people try it to see if it made a difference for them.

I survived! I have a confession to make though. After reading through many blogs of other people who have tried this detox there were some who allowed themselves a snack on the evening of day 3. I didnt do anything crazy, but I measured 1/4cup of raw almonds for both my partner and I and it was heavenly. It was around 9:00pm and I didnt feel guilty at all.

Cleanse And Detox Time :


Cleanses can be a bit of a shenanigans. Sometimes I like them. Usually I hate them.

Some cleanses make me feel hungry. My head does a 360 degree exorcist spin and I spew angry words to innocent bystanders.

Not this time.

Dr. Oz is my new bestie in the cleanse world. His cleanse didnt give me the urge to punch people in the head out of hunger. I didnt really feel hungry, but I was jonesin for something to chew or crunch. Anything. I would have chewed a frog.

I am quite certain that if anyone came near me with a bag of chips I would have wrestled them to the ground and shoved their face in the snow. It would have been a football tackle ~ fooshure ~ just for the lick of a potato chip.

The cleanse had its ups and downs.

It is entirely smoothie ridden.

Every meal = Asmoothie

That can be lovely and categorically horrific all at once. Is this what life will be like when we are 90 and dont have teeth? Life through a straw? Oh My.

So what did I do?

One of my all-time favorites for a powerful and fast cleanse is this Dr Oz 3 Day Detox.

All you need are the smoothie recipes, a blender, and about $16 per day!

Its very easy to implement, and you will not feel excessively hungry. In addition to the smoothies, there is a simple but powerful protocol to use each day that will accelerate your results and allow you to get rid of water weight and kick your metabolism into high gear. This regiment also recommends soothing epsom salt detox baths, green tea, and taking a probiotic supplement to help replenish and balance your digestive tract. He also includes a halving a multivitamin and taking in the morning and after lunch along with an Omega 3.

**These are all recommendations I would also make, for everyday supplements good for the body but especially during a cleanse, and I linked to well tested and my favorite products for these types of supplements, including a vegetarian Omega 3.

Would I Recommend This Detox

Honestly, I loved this detox. I think its a great way to reset your body and mind and take back your clarity and productivity. My hopes are to repeat this detox at the beginning of every quarter, but I MIGHT replace the last shake with a small meal like a raw salad or salmon with veggies. I would absolutely recommend this detox to anyone who is looking to cleanse and reset, but remember, its not a long term diet. What is long term, is how you continue your lifestyle after your reset.

Lets Chitty Chatty About Bath Time

Does the idea of a hot lavender-scented bath make you feel all warm and fuzzy? Just me? Okay. Fine.

The bath was my favourite part . Maybe I am just accustomed to being in hot water.

10 drops of lavender

2 1/2 cups of epsom salt

Soak for 30 minutes

I read reviews where some peeps skipped the bath part because they didnt have time. Whaaaa? Your life is too busy for a bath? Okay. Stand still. Im slapping you.

Review Of Dr Oz’s 3 Day Detox Cleanse

  • The lunch smoothie! The celery was TOO much for me, so after the first day I emitted that after the first day and added a fruit instead.
  • The smoothies were too big for me, after the first day I did about 2/3 of each ingredient listed.
  • I had serious salt cravings, which I’m not even a big salt eater/shaker. So that was surprising. There is pretty much zero salt in this cleanse.
  • I would have liked more guidelines on the amount of water to consume , but I just tried to drink when thirsty throughout.
  • Guilty admission: I cheated with a few bites of “real” food on the second and third day. It’s hard to make meals for the kiddos and not steal a bite! 🙂
  • I have continued with the green tea each morning… that is almost a week straight with no coffee and I haven’t even missed it! Wow!
  • I have tried to replace one meal a day with one of these smoothies going forward. This helps me feel less guilty about a hearty lunch or dinner, or since I am a huge snacker – I can keep snacking guilt free!
  • The recipes are seriously so easy that I am encouraged to keep all these fresh items around the house from now on!

Day 1-Morning

Breakfast shake was actually not bad. Hubby said it was gross but Im chock-full of energy since Im excited and peppy and on a caffeine-high since the first step of the day is Green Tea-yay!

Day 1-Afternoon

This green monstrosity is pretty heinous. Though I expected that after reading many, many reviews online. How else do you expect blended celery, zucchini and kale to taste? I drink it with plenty of enthusiasm, after all its the first day! Laughing as Hubby gags a few times getting it down.

Day 1-Evening

Im scared of spice and a lot of people said the evening shake was too intense so I lightened up on the cayenne pepper and this shake is light years better than the afternoon oneyeah! Detox says to also do a snack shake which I skipped I didnt feel like I really needed it so no point in extra calories. Also, already tired of blending and cleaning, blending and cleaning. Hubby complains that hes hungry, Im a little hungry before bed too but whatevs. We watch the Part 1 and Part 2 videos from the Dr. Oz show for motivation.

Day 2-Morning

I wake up ravenously hungry. And thinner. So I immediately pull out a dress that was a bit tough to zip before andsuccess! I feel good.

The tea calms my hunger and I make the smoothies. In a rush, I make the GIANT mistake of only having the tea and heading off to a meeting which took MUCH longer than anticipated. A meeting in a restaurant. With people eating REAL food.
