Thick Balmy Yet Light On Skin
For some reason, I find that the texture of the Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm feels lighter and less waxy. It is a soft balm that melts into an oil in the palm of your hand.
Unlike the original Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm, I dont have to store it in the fridge, so it sits prettily in my bathroom at room temperature, without melting. It is worth noting that I live in the Tropics. I dont know how it performs in cooler temperatures.
I find it easy to scoop out product from the tub, and it holds its shape, until I spread it between my palms, turning it into a thick balmy oil that I massage all over my skin.

Im a newbie to double cleansing, but what Ive learned in a short time is that there are so many options available for that crucial first skincare step, whether it be a balm. Ive also learned that the same bevy of expectations we place on a traditional cleanser should also be applied to said balm or oil. In other words, expect a lot more beyond the mere washing away of dirt, oil, makeup, etc. Some have ingredients that benefit oily skin, while others prove better for dry. Some are better suited for sensitive complexions over normal ones. There are a lot to choose from.

How Does It Work
I like to pop a headband over my hairline to keep my hair from getting oily. Then I scoop up a little bit of the balm and work it into my dry, make-up-covered face. Make-up melts away before my eyes even tough to remove waterproof formulas. I dont like to rush this bit, I take my time and because of the high oil content it has a good amount of slip allowing for some facial massage too. Next up I add a little water, which turns the balm into a milk. Then I remove it all with a warm damp muslin, which has a slight texture to it that gives me a spot of exfoliation too.

What Makes Elemis Cleansing Balms Different
There are so many things weve talked about in this post that make the Elemis cleansing balms different. I do, though, want to specifically call out that I love that Elemis doesnt utilize polyethylene in their balms. Polyethylene is a thermoplastic widely used in plastic production with literally tens of millions of tons produced worldwide each year.
To be honest Im not a scientist. I cant really speak to if its bad to utilize polyethylene in skincare products. But like, I dont personally love the idea of spreading a micro plastic across my face or rinsing it down my drain. Just not a fan.
Im not a big believer in the phrase clean beauty, but I do love that out of all the brands I use, Elemis really does keep it pretty clean.

Ive had lots of followers say they love the effects of the Original and Rose scented cleansing balms, but dont love scented products. I think its so awesome that Elemis has added an unscented version into the mix.
In all honesty, all the cleansing balms in the line work so well, Id select your cleansing balm of choice just based on your preferred scent. If you like a more spicy scent, the original might be for you. If rose is your thing, go for the rose version. Or if youre not really a fan of scented skincare, the brand new unscented option is awesome.

Hydrates As A Cleansing Milk
I have pretty dry skin. Its such a bummer! Im always on the hunt for cleansing options that dont strip my skin or cause further dryness. What makes the Elemis cleansing balm so beautiful is the amazing hydration it delivers towards the end of the cleanse, after youve worked up a good lather on the skin.
Rose Scent Can Be A Little Strong
Im quite vocal about my dislike for fragranced products, and rose-scented products are usually top of my list.
The Elemis Pro-Collagen Rose Cleansing Balm does smell a little strong. The scent of fresh roses wafts out into the room the moment you open the cover of your tub.
Thankfully however, the scent is that of freshly plucked roses, slightly dampened by rain. It is strong, but pleasant, and will fade quite quickly. For that reason, I forgive the scent.
Besides, it does feel quite nice at the end of a hot, sticky, humid day, smelling that fresh floral scent in the bathroom, as you massage in the thick balmy goodness into your skin. Close your eyes, and you could be in a spa or a facial salon luxuries now that were all practising social distancing!

Which Skin Types Does It Suit
So, people with skin like me dry and often dehydrated will absolutely love it. But contrary to popular belief, if you have oily skin you too will see the benefits. Cleansing balms in general have really become popular as of late. Cleansing balms are a convenient and efficient way to remove makeup, dirt, or just general grime because theyre semi-solid powerhouse cleansers. The thicker consistency means theyre travel friendly and store well. The texture also gives a beautiful, creamy, gentle wash to the face without stripping the skin.
But not all cleansing balms are created equal.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balms remove makeup and purify the skin thoroughly, but gently. Youd add this product into your routine as a first step.
Is There A Less Expensive Elemis Cleansing Balm Dupe Out There
Literally no. Ive tried so many cheaper alternatives to the Elemis cleansing balm and truly none of them compete. If any other reviews out there are suggesting any dupes, theyre not being accurate in their comparisons. I find that so many alternative cleansing balms give either a high intensity, stripping cleanse OR they just dont get the job done as well. There are plenty of other cleansing balms on the market, but no true Elemis cleansing balm dupe.
I will say it is possible to buy Elemis cheap or like, at least get a good value. Keep an eye on the Elemis website for amazing gift sets like these where you get plenty of product at a great value. You can also sometimes find Elemis on sites like QVC, Ulta, or Nordstrom with different deals available.
