Clash Of The Cleansers: Glossier Vs Bliss
My last stint in e-commerce required me to keep tabs on direct-to-consumer brands to better understand how this phenomenon is shaping retail.
Newsletters such as Lean Luxe and Girls Night In led me to Glossier. I immediately fell in love with their minimalist design and millennial pink aesthetic. I jumped at the chance to visit their flagship store in New York to see what the hype was about.
The gram worthy interiors arent the only reason to visit. They also up the ante with a bad ass way to deliver your in-store purchase:
This convinced me to buy a salve and blush so I could also revel in the basic but cute packaging.
Thanks to their A+ email marketing, I got a message about their milky jelly cleanser right when I was in the market for a new cleanser. So in the cart it went!
While waiting for it to be delivered, Glossier hyped up their product by sharing the story of how the milky jelly cleanser came about.
For some reason, this prompted me to do additional research, which led to my discovery of this . TL DR: an ex-Glossier employee shared a list of dupes for many of Glossiers signature products.
One of the dupes was Bliss Makeup Melt, rivaling the milky jelly cleanser.

Glossiers Marketing Mumbo Jumbo
Glossiers Milky Jelly Cleanser is described as a gentle-yet-effective creamy gel face wash with five skin conditioners that wont leave skin irritated or feeling tight.
I used this product for 3 months, and can confirm my skin never felt tight. However, I do follow up with a toner, serum, eye cream, and moisturizer afterwards. Therefore, I cant say how long this feeling lasts without the additional products.
They also claim it uses the same cleansing agents found it contact lens solution so it doesnt sting. Unfortunately, I never thought to test this so I cant verify.
I also use makeup remover prior to washing my face, so I cant comment on how well it removes makeup.

In 2001, Destinys Child famously sang, I dont think you ready for this jelly. Well, in 2018, we are definitely ready for jelly, especially if it comes in the form of a facial cleanser. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams probably didnt have skin care in mind when they were penning Bootylicious, but jelly cleansers are becoming more and more popular and were here for it.
Bouncy is a word that has been popping up lately to describe everything from innovative cushion compacts to serums. Of course, you cant get anymore bouncy than jelly cleansers, which are similar to cleansing balms but lighter and more jiggly. Some actually do come in jelly mold shapes but the majority of jelly cleansers come in easy-to-apply tubes or even jars.
Jelly cleansers are ideal for removing dirt, oil and makeup thanks to their melting formulas, and they dont dry out skin. Most are suitable for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin. They are often applied to dry skin, then water is added at the end, turning the jelly into a milky texture that rinses away.

What Product Should You Use After Double Cleansing
If you’re following a full 10-step K-beauty routine, Cho says exfoliating would be the natural next step in the process. But if you’ve got sensitive skin or use acids that are only recommended for once or twice a week, she recommends applying a toner afterward to help prep your skin for moisturizer. It’ll also help remove any leftover residue from your cleanser.
At the very least, though, you definitely do want to use a moisturizer. NYC dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, M.D., says applying one immediately after double cleansing will help your skin retain hydration. Otherwise it will compromise the integrity of your skin barrier, which can lead to irritation, redness, and acne.

Who Does Double Cleansing Work Best For
Double cleansing works for all skin types. “Whether you have oily, acne-prone, or dry skin that needs some added moisture, double cleansing will help make sure any and all impurities are removed, which will leave your skin looking dewy and with a soft glow,” says Cho.
Zeichner agrees but says your skin type determines what cleansers you should use. If you’re dry or sensitive, he recommends Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Oil Cleanser followed by Bioderma Micellar Water, which are both hydrating and gentle. If you have oily skin, he recommends Erborian Black Cleansing Oil, which is formulated with purifying charcoal to remove excess sebum, followed by a foaming cleanser like Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Foaming Cleanser.

The Scent: A Hint Of Rose
Dr. Nazarian usually recommends that all her patients use unscented cleansers. “Added perfumes and scents do nothing to make the cleanser more effective, and only increase the risk of irritation and allergy,” she says.
While this product doesn’t contain artificial fragrance, it does have a nice light rose scent, thanks to the rose water. I loved this because it didn’t bother my skin or allergies yet still smelled nice and fresh.

My Experience With Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser Conditioning Face Wash:
Packaging: This face wash come in a sturdy, translucent plastic bottle with a pump which also has a locking mechanism hence you can safely travel with this.
Texture/Consistency: This face wash has a thick gel-like texture. It is not runny, rather the consistency is quite goope-y. The product produces enough foam to help cleanse your skin but there is lather or tons of bubbles you get with a traditional foaming cleanser. The texture and performance reminds me very much of the Cera Ve Hydrating Cleanser that I have used in the past. It is also not as easy to rinse off compared to traditional foaming cleanser due to its very creamy consistency. You could either use a wash cloth or you will need to rinse your skin multiple times.
Usage: This face wash has been a boon for my normal-dry skin. I find it very soothing on my skin. I use it mostly as my morning cleanser to wash my face in the shower to refresh my skin. I dont find that the cleanser strips my skin and it does not leave it tight. I dont feel the need to follow up with a moisturizer post cleansing my skin. I dont prefer using this during the night as I dont find this very effective at removing makeup on its own. It is good enough to remove light makeup like tinted moisturizer but it does not do much for waterproof makeup unless I use it as a second cleanser post removing makeup with oil/makeup wipes.
