Its Not A Balanced Diet
Drinking only lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper does not provide enough fiber, protein, fat, vitamins or minerals for your bodys needs.
The World Health Organization advises getting no more than 5% of your daily calories from added sugars, which equals roughly 25 grams per day for the average adult .
Just one serving of the Master Cleanse lemonade contains over 23 grams of sugar, and maple syrup is the main source of calories during the cleanse .
Therefore, the recommended serving of six lemonades per day includes over 138 grams of added sugar.
Interestingly, even though Master Cleanse lemonade is very high in sugar, it does not appear to negatively affect blood sugar levels when consumed in small quantities during a week-long fast .

Limitations: According to the web site, you must follow the diet exactly or it wont work and can leave you feeling tired, sick, achy, and with cravings.

Bottled Water Is Not A Good Choice Either
In addition to being very expensive, the manufacturing processes for bottled water are not tightly regulated.
A lot of times, the bottled water you buy is not any better than city tap water – and sometimes it is just plain city water!
To make sure you get all the detoxing benefits, you should make the lemonade with filtered water.
You can find filtered water at most grocery stores, but a more convenient option is to own you’re own home water filter.

After looking at many brands I found the Aquasana performed better than all of them. It also cost a lot less.
Aot of filters don’t do a good job of filtering out the contaminations found in today’s drinking water, and some strip your water of beneficial minerals, which is especially bad for growing children.

Okay, I went off on a bit of a tangent there about filtered water.
It’s just that water is such a crucial element for good health.
As for the other main ingredients they’re pretty standard fare and can be found at most grocery stores.
A few things to keep in mind:
Use Natural Fresh Ingredients
Drinking pure filtered water or distilled water is considered among the best ways of cleansing your body naturally. For this reason, this ingredient is an crucial part of the master cleanse diet.
Avoid using tap water or bottled water as they contain chemicals that may be harmful to your health.
All the other ingredients should be organic. Non-organic fruits and vegetables are often sprayed with pesticides and other chemicals.
Avoid concentrated lemon juice as it is known to contain sugar and other preservatives. Also, you should only use Grade B maple syrup as processed syrup contains artificial flavors and high sugar concentration. The syrup provides most of the calories. Hence the alternate name, maple syrup diet.
The reason for using lemon and maple syrup is that they are a rich source of vitamins and minerals.
The salt should be non-ionized. If you have issues with salt consumption, you should consider alternatives such as laxative tea. However, the tea should not contain caffeine or any other elements that may hurt the effectiveness of the concoction.

The Recipe + What You Need & Tips
The Master Cleanse drink recipe is as follows:
- 8 ounces of purified water
- 2 Tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 Tablespoons of Grade B maple syrup*
- 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
*Most maple syrups will now say formerly Grade B. Its different from regular ole maple syrup because it is more nutrient rich & healthier, & therefore, more expensive. You must use Grade B or equivalent. Be sure to check!
I linked up all the specific ingredients for you all above or you can buy everything you need in a bundle here. Suja also makes some pre-made Master Cleanse juices, which is nice for being on the run. They arent the exact recipe, but pretty darn close. I recommend buying glass bottles& premixing your beverages to make it easier. You can premix everything except the cayenne pepper. If you mix it in ahead of time, it will only get more & more spicy as it sits. Premix the drinks for a day or two at a time & add the cayenne just before drinking it.
Step : How To Start The Master Cleanse Lemonade Diet
It all gets real from day 5 because this is when you officially start the cayenne pepper diet. You should start the day by drinking a mix of 2 level teaspoons of non-iodized sea salt in approx. 900mls of lukewarm water on an empty stomach.
After that, you are to drink 6-12 glasses of the cayenne pepper concoction during the day, and laxative tea in the night.

Detox Tea Dosage Of Any Herbal Laxative
Dosage of the TEA is an issue that has to be taken into consideration, the right amount is dependent on many factors including your weight, state of health, and type of laxative that you are using. There are encapsulated herbs and herbal tablets that can be used for The Master Cleanse but I prefer tablets as the dosage is easy to adjust to your own specific needs. My rule of thumb is to not follow the instructions on the packaging as they are for people that are already eating not cleansing. This means the dosage will be less than necessary for someone on a liquid diet, so instead of 1 tablet I take 4 and this provides enough stimulation to generally have 1 to 2 eliminations from 1 dosage. This maybe too much for some but most require this amount or more for productive BMs. The herbal laxative should be used every morning and evening, when using salt water flush in the morning then only laxative at night.
One last note, psyllium husks are not a laxative but a high fiber food that causes peristalsis and is not recommended on The Master Cleanse.
