While the product claims to be ideal for pots, pans, tile, stovetops, tile, tubs, showers, soap residue, and grease buildup, here are the items or areas where weve had luck so far.

• Baked-on stains in the oven, non-textured cookie sheets, and toaster ovens
• Stovetop, including glass stovetops
• Stainless steel kitchen sink
• Spot-treating the dishwasher

• An immensely difficult stain that other cleaners wouldnt get rid of, even when left to soak. Mrs. Meyers Baking Soda Cream got rid of it in just a few moments . Prior to that the only thing that worked was my nail. No thanks!

Part of homesteading is having well water. And that means minerals and iron. I have a water softener, but me and that thing have been fighting since the day it was installed. It’s winning.

Another part of homesteading is having a septic system. It’s one of several reasons that I switched to making my own cleaners like this soft scrub recipe.

The main reason, however, was having little ones and not wanting to have chemicals on the surfaces where my kids could get hurt.

This DIY soft scrub with essential oils is incredibly easy to make, and you’ll save a lot of money. Each batch costs less than 50 cents to make, which is a considerable savings over buying the real thing at the store.

There are several essential oils that you can use for cleaning.

• Lemon essential oil has a light and clean scent. It’s naturally antimicrobial and helps dissolve dirt and grime.
• Tea tree oil is one of the strongest antimicrobial essential oils. It has a medicinal scent, but it can be blended with other oils.
• Lavender essential oil is antibacterial and helps reduce odors. It also has a relaxing scent.
• Eucalyptus essential oil is naturally antimicrobial. It’s also good for mold or mildew.
• Sweet orange essential oil is uplifting, smells great, and helps reduce bacteria.
• Peppermint essential oil can kill bacteria and fungus. It’s also a good bug repellent, especially for spiders.
• Pine essential oil can kill some yeast, bacteria, mold, and mildew. It also helps purify the air.
• Thyme essential oil is antimicrobial for cleaning. It’s also calming for aromatherapy.
• Tangerine essential oil is similar to lemon and wild orange. It’s an antiseptic, and it smells great.

I made a blend with lemon, tangerine, and pine. I also recommend learning how to make thieves oil and using that for cleaning.

What Can You Not Clean With Vinegar And Baking Soda Paste

As much as I love this baking soda cream cleanser, it can’t be used on all surfaces. Don’t use it on surfaces that can’t be cleaned with baking soda or vinegar.

Do not use this soft scrub recipe on:

• Aluminum cookware
• Gold plated dishes or serving ware

If you’re unsure, use Google or try this DIY soft scrub in an inconspicuous area.

Can I Mix Baking Soda And Vinegar To Clean

Vinegar is a weak acid, and baking soda is a base. Both are wonderful natural cleaners on their own, but what happens when you combine them?

A lot of bubbles is what happens when you combine them.

Baking soda and vinegar are safe to combine, but they don’t make a super cleaner when combined unfortunately.

Instead, they make water, carbon dioxide , and salt.

While mixing vinegar and baking soda doesn’t create a natural super cleaner, I still like to use it in this homemade soft scrub with essential oils.

Why Is Ic Baking Necessary

The major concern with moisture sensitive parts is that the plastic packaging around the part will absorb water When it comes time to assemble a circuit board and the part undergoes reflow soldering, the moisture in the packaging can have very destructive effects. Due to the high temperature of the reflow process, the water absorbed by the part boils. The boiling causes bubbles to form inside of the plastic packaging. The force of these bubbles deforms the part and often damages the internal components. The visible damage done to the part is called popcorning.

Moisture sensitivity of a particular integrated circuit is defined by its Moisture Sensitivity Level. The higher the Moisture Sensitivity Level, the more rapidly the part will absorb water. These levels range from MSL 1 to MSL 6. MSL 6 parts can only be left out for 6 hours before baking is required.

Once ICs have been successfully baked, APS immediately dry packs them with desiccant and a moisture level indicator card to ensure successful problem-free soldering. It is very unlikely that during normal production operation any IC will undergo the sort of rapid heating experienced during reflow soldering. Once the part has been soldered to the PCB you can be confident that moisture sensitivity is no longer a concern.

What Is Cream Cleanser Made Of

I used baking soda, dish soap, vinegar, and essential oils to make a homemade soft scrub without castile soap.

Many soft scrub recipes call for castile soap. Castile soap and vinegar shouldn’t be mixed together because they cancel each other out.

Instead, I used Dawn dish soap. I prefer to use Dawn on my shower over liquid castile soap, so that’s another reason that I used dish soap.

I’ve also made this with Mrs. Meyer dish soap. I love Mrs. Meyer dish soap, and it works great with that too.

What We Didnt Like About Meyers Baking Soda Cleaner

In this section, we cover the top 3 things we didnt like about the product or felt could use improvement. You can find the rest under the Neat-ish Rating section.

1. The Scent

While I appreciate the classic lemon verbena smell that Mrs. Meyers is so well-known for, its not exactly everyones preference and some tend to find it harsh, including my mother, who thinks it smells like Soft Scrubwhich it kind of is, minus some chemicals, sort of.

Unfortunately, as of to date, Mrs. Meyers Baking Soda Cleaner only comes in the verbena fragrance, although they do offer a lavender-scented on in the Baking Soda Scrub version as well as in the lemon verbena scent. We hope that well see more scent offerings for the Mrs Meyers Baking Soda Cream Cleaner as well as the Mrs. Meyers Vinegar Gel in the near future.

2. The Iffy EWG Rating

Its not a huge deal for us, but the D grade with ingredients may bother some people. who are really looking for safe products.

While were not certain how transparent SC Johnson has been with EWG , we cant confidently assume or say that the product is toxin-free since even natural-based products can cause issues.

At the same time, we cant 100% say that it isnt chemical- or toxin-free either since were not chemists.

3. Availability

For a product that is so popular among those who know of its existence and its overall effectiveness, it can be extremely hard to find online, even before the pandemic hitespecially in brick-and-mortar stores.

How Does Mrs Meyers Baking Soda Cleaner Work

Mrs. Meyers Baking Soda Cream Cleaner works a lot like Soft Scrub or products like Bar Keepers Friend in liquid form, but it also functions more as soap-type cleaner in a way as well.

One could also compare the product to DIY methods that might include mixing Dawn or regular dish soap with baking soda in order to make a concentrated paste to scrub, clean, and hopefully brighten certain discolored items , thanks to the effects of the baking soda.

How Long Do You Leave A Baking Soda Cream Cleaner On

I use this DIY soft scrub with essential oils and scrub until the gunk or stain is gone. However, you can also let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes on your skin or tub.

Some really stubborn stains may take a bit of soaking to come clean.

You can also let this vinegar and baking soda paste sit on clothes until it dries. It’s great for removing perspiration stains and letting it sit until you launder the item.

Where can you use Mrs. Meyers Baking Soda Cream Cleaner? Thanks to its no-scratch formulation, you can use the baking soda paste cream on a variety of surfaces.

• Apply product to a cloth or sponge, then wipe the surface clean.
• Rinse when finished.
• For tough spots or grease build-up, apply directly to the site and allow to sit for a few minutes if necessary. Rinse or wipe the surface clean when finished.

Things to Know

While SC Johnson claims that Mrs. Meyers Baking Soda Cleaner is made up of plant-derived ingredients, we thought it worth mentioning that it still scored a D on the Environmental Working Groups website.

Although products with items such as fragrance or parfum labeled in their ingredients tend to get a heavy ding on a score regardless of what that fragrance is made up of, if youre concerned about ingredients, this may still be something to consider.

And while were not chemists or ingredient gurus, we cant comfortably or confidently tout this product as chemical-free or toxin-free, as many tend to do. Its also worth mentioning that it is labeled as having fragrance allergens, which may be cause for the products poor-ish grade on EWG.

All we know is that we like the product, and it seems to rate better than many products of its kind, such as most Soft Scrub or Bar Keepers Friend products.

While we were initially wanted to try out Mrs. Meyers Baking Soda Cream due to being touted as a toxin-free cleaner before checking through EWG and seeing the so-so rating, we really wound up feeling impressed by its overall performance. Here are our Top 3 loves about the product and why we keep using it.

It Sometimes Works When Traditional Cleaners Wont

This was a biggie for us and we found the same to be true for their Vinegar Gel, which is why we always tend to use them side-by-side with each other when tackling difficult cleaning messes.

For whatever reason, some stains wouldnt come out of an old porcelain sink with the usual store-bought cleaners, whether Soft Scrub or Bar Keepers, but when we tried the Baking Soda Cream Cleaner, it actually came up pretty quickly, which surprised us. Similar happened while using their Vinegar Gel too.

The same could be said for using the Baking Soda Cream Cleaner in places like my mothers toilet at her former place. There was a mineral or some kind of stain that no heavy-duty toilet bowl cleaner managed to remove.

After applying a little paste on the spot and letting it sit for a bit , I was able to get rid of the spot with a little extra scrubbing.
