Skinceuticals Purifying Cleanser With Glycolic Acid Reviews

Promotes A Youthful Complexion

SKINCEUTICALS BRAND REVIEW – MY FAVOURITE PRODUCTS

AHAs, including glycolic acid, have been found to stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a structural protein naturally produced by the body responsible for keeping the skin firm. Collagen production starts to decline around age 25 and decreases with age. Collagen levels also decrease due to smoking, sugar consumption, and overexposure to the suns ultraviolet rays. Ultimately, this decrease leads to wrinkles and sagging skin.

Even though many skincare products include collagen as an ingredient, it is simply too large to penetrate the skin deep enough to have an anti-aging effect.

Best Replacement For Md Forte

I used MD Forte for years and was traumatized when it was discontinued. I tried several other brands that I thought might be close, but they were not! I was hesitant to try the Skinceuticals mainly due to cost for the items I needed. However, I am very happy with the investment to date, about 6-8 weeks. I will be 60 in April and still have occasional breakouts, but live in Colorado where the air is very dry. My skin takes a beating, but I am not a sun goddess as we are a Mile High! I do love the cleanser and the value is comparable to the other cleansers I have tried. This one is just so much better!

My skin VERY sensitive,…this did not burn but still felt completely clean of makeup

What Is Glycolic Acid

Commonly derived from sugar cane, glycolic acid is the smallest of the alpha hydroxy acids . This potent ingredient effectively loosens and releases dead and dehydrated cells, increasing the rate of exfoliation on the surface of the skin. This exfoliation promotes cellular turnover, which helps minimize the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, and dull skin tone. The effectiveness of glycolic acid is determined by its free acid value – the active acid available to work on your skin.

    Perfect For Sensitive Aging Clog

My skin is super finicky: highly reactive, clog-prone, oily, dermatitis-prone…and now that I’m in my 40s, it needs regular exfoliation. The problem is that virtually every active upsets it, and exfoliating cleansers that contain an ideal % of the active ingredient always have harsh surfactants or other irritating ingredients.I decided to give this product a try on a whim and I’m very happy I did! Paired with my Mia in the PM, it really gets down deep into the pores, and a little goes a long way.I’m thrilled to report that my skin is now softer, smoother, and glowing, instead of the rough, dull, blotchy look I thought would only continue to worsen now that I’m officially “middle-aged”. With skin that’s looking and behaving younger, middle age doesn’t seem so scary anymore!

How To Use A Glycolic Face Wash

If youre new to using a glycolic renewal cleanser or are changing to a formula with a higher concentration conduct a patch test first.

    • Whether you use a glycolic acid face wash at 3% or 10%, remember, never use it around your eyes and lips. Use a separate makeup remover to prevent burning, stinging, and dryness for these delicate areas.
    • As mentioned, a glycolic acid cleanser provides anywhere between 3 and 10% GA, meaning it provides gentle exfoliation. With that in mind, only use it once a day ideally, at night, because glycolic acid makes the skin more sensitive to the sun.
    • Always use sun protection during the day ideally, a minimum sun protection factor of 30.
    • While there are typically few adverse side effects with at-home glycolic products , if your skin feels irritated or shows signs of sensitivity , decrease how often youre using your glycolic face wash. Discontinue it altogether if you arent seeing any improvement or your skin continues to get worse.
    • Be mindful of the other products youre using with active ingredients in your routine, especially if youre using a glycolic cleanser every day. You may need to adjust the frequency.

The Science Behind Glycolic Acid Cleansers

The 9 Best Glycolic Acid Face Washes to Use for Brighter Skin

Glycolic acid is a member of the class of chemical compounds known as alpha-hydroxy acids . These compounds consist of a carboxylic acid substituted with a hydroxyl group on the adjacent carbon in the alpha position, hence the name.

    • Other AHAs include lactic acid, mandelic acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, and citric acid.
    • AHAs can be naturally derived from fruit and milk sugars or synthetically produced. For example, glycolic acid can be isolated from natural sources like sugarcane, sugar beets, pineapple, cantaloupe, and unripe grapes.
    • AHAs are frequently used in skincare products, such as a glycolic acid cleanser, because they can exfoliate the skin, stimulate the skins natural regeneration process, and help the skin to retain moisture.
    • Glycolic acid is unique because it has the smallest molecular size out of all the AHAs. Molecular size matters because the smaller a molecule, the more easily it can penetrate deep into the skin. With that said, glycolic acid penetrates the skin better and faster than all of the others, which is why its considered the strongest AHA.
    • While there can be glycolic solutions as high as 70% for in-office treatments, the percentage in homecare products is typically between 8 and 30% but a glycolic acid face wash falls between 3 and 10%.

    The Concentration Of Glycolic Acid

For a glycolic acid face wash, look for a concentration ranging from 4-10%. If the percentage is not clear on the packaging, look at glycolic acids order on the ingredient label the closer to the top, the stronger the percentage. If your skin is on the sensitive side, opt for a lower percentage.

According to research, the depth to which glycolic acid causes peeling often depends upon the concentration. For example, a 1 percent glycolic acid solution affects the pH level of three layers of skin, while a 10 percent solution can penetrate 10 to 20 layers.

Though the word acid is ominous, a glycolic acid face wash can be a safe and effective way for you to achieve a clear, smooth, glowing complexion. Glycolic acid, including a glycolic cleanser, is an exceptional multi-tasker. It has anti-inflammatory, keratolytic, and antioxidant effects and acts as an exfoliator and a moisturizer.

My Experience With Skinceuticals Lha Cleansing Gel:

Skinceuticals is really good skincare brand that are generally found in online or in limited pharmacies. The LHA cleanser claims to reduce acne, removes dirt and makeup residue and unclog pores and remove excessive oil. The cleanser has slightly runny gel texture which wont dry out your skin and has pleasant scent to it. It feels very creamy on the face and leaves skin soft and glowing after use.

It instantly adds up glow to the skin. It also promises to remove any sort of makeup residue and unclog pores on the skin which leaves your skin super clean. Using it for a month or two and now I can feel acne have gone, my T-zone doesnt feel oily as before and my skin feels more radiant. I cant say for aging signs, since I dont have any as I have always used good anti-aging products for a very long time now. Even if its expensive, a little goes a long way as a little quantity is sufficient for the entire face.
