How To Detox Your Body
Start your journey with some simple changes. Swap out white carbohydrates like rice for brown varieties replace potato fries with sweet potato fries buy whole grain bread instead of white use whole-grain flours to prepare cakes, cookies, muffins, and brownies.
Reduce your intake of refined sugar. This means cutting down on sweets but also substituting other foods that may contain hidden sugars like salad dressings, sauces, and gravies.
Remove processed foods from the diet. Trans fats increase liver toxicity, while heavily processed meats are linked to colon cancer, so you might want to stay away from those too . If you need a rule of thumb, anything with more than five ingredients you cant pronounce is most likely highly processed, so best stay away from it altogether. These foods are loaded with preservatives, chemicals, and artificial flavors, which might affect the way your body processes foods to give you energy.
Limit dairy products if you can. Well, these are high in saturated fat, which can increase your LDL or bad cholesterol levels . In addition, dairy products contain hormones like estrogen that may also be linked to certain types of cancer .
This diet doesnt mean cutting out all sources of protein. Rather than going for red meat all the time, try beans, or lentils instead of chicken or yogurt. It has just as much protein but wont leave you feeling heavy afterward.
How Does The Detox Plan Work
A detox plan works to encourage the three phases of natural detoxification in the body.
- Phase 1: Enzymes protect cells from damage by breaking the toxins down into smaller, water-soluble substances.
- Phase 2: Substances from phase one bind with other substances, known as conjugates, to make them less harmful and even more soluble for excretion.
- Phase 3: Waste removal into the kidneys to be excreted in the urine or into the liver to be excreted through bile into the digestive tract and excreted via stools.
These phases are helped along with the addition of extra macronutrients, vitamins, minerals and amino acids in your diet. Some of the best foods to eat on a detox include those that include high amounts of protein, B vitamins, vitamin E and C, magnesium, selenium and zinc.

Nutritionist Kim Pearson explains that initially, there are two main ways you can support your bodys natural detoxification processes.
Firstly, ensure you are getting enough dietary fibre which supports healthy elimination of waste from the bowel. If we have a low fibre diet and arent having regular bowel movements then our body may reabsorb the filtered toxins. Eating a wide range of organic vegetables is a great way to increase your fibre intake.
Following a high fibre diet outside of the detox can also help with this when plan is over.
Secondly, drink plenty of water which supports elimination of waste via the kidneys.

How Do I Follow A Body Cleanse
1. Drink WaterFirst things first, make sure to drink lots of water during your cleanse. Adequate hydration is crucial during your detox, as even mild dehydration can lead to headaches, anxiety and a decrease in cognitive function. Even if youre on a juice-only cleanse, you still need to drink water to rid your body of toxins.
2. Pee and SweatIf youre drinking lots of water, the first one will come naturally, but these two things are important to ridding your body of toxins. Peeing and sweating releases fat from your body, and fat is where most toxins are stored. The more you pee and sweat, the more toxins are released and the better cleanse you can get!
3. Restorative MovementHardcore workouts are best to stay away from on your cleanse, but you should still get your body moving with restorative exercises like yoga, pilates, and even walking. To release toxins, you want to get your blood flowing, and these exercises are the best way to do it.
4. RestSo much of our lives are go, go, go, but its important to rest your mind and body, especially during a detox. Take time for yourself to do things that relax you, whether its reading a book, taking a bubble bath, or lounging on the couch binging Netflix. Make sure you get plenty of rest and get to bed early as the liver is able to process the most amount of inflammation when you sleep.
For The Master Cleanse

- Lemons: You will need at least three per day.
- Pure maple syrup: At least 3/4 cup per day.
- Cayenne pepper: At least 2/3 teaspoon per day.
- Herbal laxative tea: Up to one serving per day.
- Non-iodized sea salt: Two teaspoons per day.
- Purified or spring water: At least 80 ounces per day.

However, if you feel your body has been exposed to toxins lately, which can happen during the festive season, then make sure that you spend some days to treat your body with extra TLC.
