The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Double Cleanse

In 1 Cleansing Products:

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser is The Best For Makeup Removal

Im going to be honest, psychologically, its complicated for me to use only one product instead of two! I still have a doubt that my skin is not completely clean. But I still wanted to try 2 in 1 cleansing products and here are my conclusions for each of them.

Its my favorite of the bunch. Its a sort of oil-based cream, which is very effective in dissolving make-up. The texture is very pleasant, it melts on contact with the heat of the skin and becomes easier to massage. It turns into a thick milky texture when in contact with water, but I dont find it thick enough to emulsify it as I would like. As a result, I rather use it as a makeup remover, and I still use a second cleansing product after, even if the brand claims it a 2 in 1 product. Its a squalane oil-based product, so its very comfortable and nourishing. Its value for money is very good, especially the 150ml version .

On paper, I loved the idea! An oil that turns into a foaming product that can be emulsified is just great! But unfortunately, I just hated this product, very fragranced , which stung my eyes and which I found very stripping So I use it to clean my brushes and it does a great job, so theres that. Luckily for me, it was quite cheap .

What I Love About The Ordinary

  • The Ordinary is quite affordable and effective
  • They are cruelty-free and vegan free
  • They offer to ship to various destinations all over the world .
  • Also, they have great customer service. If you are a beginner and dont know where to start, contacting customer support is definitely the best option. You can also build products regimen according to your skin problems on their website.

In this post, I will suggest effective skincare products for acne-prone skin including everyday routines.

It is very important you do a patch test for each and every product mentioned here. How to do a patch test would be at the end of this post.

Cerave Renewing Sa Cleanser

In the morning, I simply cleanse my skin using CeraVe Renewing SA Cleanser. I dont use the The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser in the morning, I only use at night to help breakdown excessive oil accumulated throughout the day. You can use your favorite cleanser during your morning skincare routine, no need to double cleanse.

How Do I Use The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser

The Ordinarys Squalane Cleanser undergoes 3 textural phases 1) Balm-like upon dispensing, 2) Oil-like after rubbing between the palms of your hands and 3) Milk-like when combined with water.

  • Apply a small amount into the palm of your hands
  • Rub for about 20 seconds until the thick consistency changes and melts into a beautiful balm
  • It may take more or less time for some people, depending on the temperature of your hands and where the product has been stored
  • Just keep rubbing and you will see and feel it change.

I have seen many people say they felt disappointed by this cleanser but they soon changed their minds once they realized they were not rubbing it for long enough.

The Ordinary 1% Retinol Serum

THE ORDINARY Squalane Cleanser Two of a Kind Set

Retinol isnt something that should be exempted in your skincare routine, this vitamin A derivative keeps your skins elasticity and wellbeing in shape by slowing down aging-signs such as wrinkles and fine lines, boost collagen production, accelerate cell turnover and regeneration thereby treating existing and preventing occurrence of new acne breakouts.

Retinol helps treat and keep my acne breakouts under control, make my skin firm as it stimulates collagen production and enhance cell turnover and regeneration, this in turn improves my skin elasticity and tone, I have been using retinol for a very long time. Read full review here.

How I Apply It.

I apply only 4 drops on my entire face and neck every night . My skin can handle it because Im not new to retinol . However, if youre new to retinol its highly advised to ease your way into using it.

If you feel your skin cant handle 1% retinol, you can start from the lower strength. The Ordinary has provision for that, which is, The Ordinary 0.2% Retinol in Squalane, gradually as your skin builds tolerance to retinol you can increase to The Ordinary 0.5% Retinol in Squalane. If you feel the need to upgrade to the 1% strength, then you can go ahead so far as your skin can take it.

    The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

While my face is still damp or moist I quickly apply hyaluronic acid serum because of the fact that hyaluronic acid works best when on a damp or moist skin to retain moisture and supply hydration by pulling moisture from the atmosphere into your skin.

The Ordinary hyaluronic acid serum combines 2% Hyaluronic Acid + B5. Vitamin B5 is a water-soluble vitamin. As a water-soluble vitamin it helps keep skin soft, smooth and healthy. It also has an anti-inflammatory effect that can help stimulate your skins healing processes and deeply hydrates the skin by quenching the skins thirst of hydration through absorbing moisture from the air. In combination with hyaluronic acid which is also a moisture magnet that draws moisture from the atmosphere into the skin makes this hyaluronic acid serum an instant and intense skin hydrator. How I Apply It.

Is It Better To Use A Cleansing Device

Clarisonic or Foreo cleansing brushes are super popular for a deeper cleansing effect.

Personally, I like my old Clarisonic a lot and I use it 3-4 times a week but Im very careful of not overusing it.

I have a super soft brush head , which I change very regularly for hygiene reasons.

I definitely dont recommend using rotating cleansing brushes that can be damaging for the skin tissues .

The Clarisonic brush oscillates, it doesnt rotate, so its much softer for the skin.

If you have sensitive skin, I wouldnt recommend these kind of devices though. You can definitely do a super effective cleansing process with only your fingertips .

About My Skin: Combination And Acne

I had significant acne as a teenager, and it reared its head once again when I turned 30 . Im currently fighting off cystic breakouts and scarring that make me feel like a 15-year-old again, and my skin needs all the gentle, nourishing products it can get. Even without the hormonal flares Im currently experiencing, my skin is generally sensitive, combination, and acne-prone, with a dash of eczema in winter .

    Does The Cleanser Work Well

I think this is a good oil cleanser. Although you need to use quite a bit of it to cleanse the whole face, it really works in getting your makeup off. It breaks down makeup and mascara quite well , and it emulsifies really nicely. When you add a bit of water to it, it turns milky immediately, making it super easy to remove.

My favourite thing about this cleanser is how it makes my skin feel after using it. It leaves my skin feeling really moisturised and soft! This is how I was introduced into how nice squalane makes your skin feel, and now I use it all the time. However, for this reason, I wouldnt recommend this cleanser to people with oily skin, unless you double cleanse afterwards to remove the oils from the skin.

The cleanser is so affordable, its hard not to fall in love.

    What Are Oil Cleansers

    The Ordinary

Oil cleansers are cleansers that contain no water they only contain plant oils or synthetic oils. They can be made of many different plant oils such as sunflower oil, rosehip oil and squalane oil . Synthetic oils arent necessarily bad, but some arent biodegradable. This means they wont ever break down, which makes them really polluting to the planet! In order to be a bit more eco-friendly, check the ingredients of your cleanser before purchase to make sure they are environment-safe.

Oil cleansers are usually used before water-based cleansers , but if you have dry skin, you can use an oil cleanser as your main cleanser. The method of using two cleansers is called double cleansing, and it is a great way to make sure youre really cleansing your skin well. In fact, you can use an oil cleanser to remove all your makeup!

To use an oil cleanser, rub the oil onto your dry skin. Massage in small circles, and then add some water to your hands and continue to massage a little bit, then rinse! After this, follow up with a water-based cleanser to properly cleanse your skin. For a complete breakdown on how to double cleanse, check out my skincare guide.

The Bottom Line Of Using The Ordinary Products For Treating Acne

The Ordinary is one of my favourite skincare brands and when it comes to treating acne they have some great formulations.

Do I think that you can treat acne better with other products?

Possibly. I would always recommend the Glycolic Acid Toning Solution every time and also the AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution. There are definitely better cleansers and lactic acids on the market than these from The Ordinary.

As always the price point of The Ordianry products makes it my first choice when recommending a well-formulated simple to use products.

Whatever skincare range, brand or product you use it comes to the right ingredients.

To treat acne you need ingredients that are able to:

    • Be able to clean out the pores from sebum, build up and bacteria that cause acne
    • Soothe inflammation and redness
    • Prevent and heal hyperpigmentation and scaring
    • Protect the skins moisture barrier
    • Keep the skin surrounding the acne healthy

Why Is Azelaic Acid Good For Acne

This grain derived dicarboxylic acid is also produced by the yeast that lives on our skin. It works to gently exfoliate and clear away dead skin cells and dirt to unclog pores. Its antioxidant and antibacterial properties help to eliminate acne-causing bacteria. With azelaic acids ability to block the work of the enzyme tyrosinase, it helps to prevent pigmentation and to reduce acne scars, discolouration, and hyperpigmentation.

    The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + 1% Zinc

    The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Review

Niacinamide helps control excessive oil production, minimize large pores, improve skin barrier function and enhance overall skin tone which is very beneficial for all skin type but mostly for individuals with oily skin . Individuals with oily skin are very much susceptible to acne breakouts due to excessive oil production which can lead to clogged pores, so to regulate oil production you have to incorporate niacinamide into your routine.

The Ordinary 10% Niacinamide + 1% Zinc formula combines 10% Niacinamide which reduces excessive oil production, redness, minimize large visible-pores, clears blemishes and treats acne alongside zinc which helps calms redness too and regulates sebum. This formula has been my holy grail and my go-to skincare product and it will never be omitted in my skincare routine, its here to stay forever .

With this product, my skin feels sooooo smooth, my pores are drastically reduced, excessive oil production was absolutely under control, my complexion was improved and my tiny acne is a thing of the past. Read full review here.

    How I Apply It.

I apply 2-3 drops on my entire face every night immediately after cleansing. I apply this both morning and night, but you can choose to use at night-time only.

Review Of The Ordinarys Vitamin C Suspension 30% In Silicone

The Ordinarys Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone

The benefits of topical vitamin C have already been covered above in this blogpost on the segment on The Ordinarys 100% L-Ascorbic Acid powder. The Ordinarys Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone feels like a cream that you really have to spread to avoid clumping.

You can see that The Ordinarys Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone is quite viscous and you really need to spread it into your skin.

Why are silicones included in The Ordinarys Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone?

The Ordinarys Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone tries to overcome the problems of active vitamin C by stabilising the molecules in silicone.

As Ive covered in my blogpost on Topical Vitamin C, the efficacy of L-ascorbic acid peaks at 20%, a concentration beyond that does result in any additional increase in benefits to the skin and has a higher risk of irritation to the skin. Silicone is a double edged sword in this formulation. On one hand, silicone stabilises the active vitamin C , on the other silicones impede the skins uptake of L-ascorbic acid. In the case of The Ordinarys Vitamin C Suspension 30% in Silicone, this increased concentration of L-ascorbic acid helps to overcome this problem of absorption. However, we dont know what the exact percentage of L-ascorbic acid absorption will be.
