I Missed Eating Animal Proteins On This Whole
While I never felt hungry while on this whole-food plant-based diet, I definitely missed eating animal proteins, including eggs, fish, and lean meats. It wasnt just a mental thing, but my body craved these proteins. I work out a lot, so that might be part of the reason, so this is something I slowly re-introduced back into my diet after the cleanse ended.

What Is A Detox Why Is It Needed
Depending on who you ask, the detox diet meaning can vary pretty widely. For some, it may be considered an intense cleansing diet that consists of drinking strange concoctions for weeks on end to clear out toxins and achieve weight loss. For others, the term detox cleanse is little more than a marketing ploy used to shill expensive and overpriced products to health-conscious consumers.
In reality, a detox diet can be a healthy way to get back on track and help your body do exactly what its designed to do: clear out toxins and keep you in tip-top shape.
See, your body has a complex detox system built right in, and all of your organs work together to keep you feeling healthy. Your skin pushes out bacteria through the sweat, your kidneys filter through liters of blood and produce urine, your lungs expel carbon dioxide, your intestines extract nutrients from food to excrete waste products, and your liver clears out toxins from the body.
Factors like chronic stress, unhealthy habits, physical inactivity and a diet high in ultra-processed foods can totally tank your bodys natural detox system, making it even harder to remove toxins from the bloodstream efficiently.

What Are The Risks Of A Whole
Generally, there are few downsides to a whole-foods diet, as long as you maintain perspective. Its important to realize that this does not have to be all or nothing. By avoiding that mentality, you will not be setting yourself up for failure, says Young.
Tread lightly if you have a history of disordered eating, adds Susie. Following a whole-foods diet too strictly can veer into a fixation on clean eating and, for some people, even prompt shame if they eat something processed.
If you have become obsessed with food choices in the past, reach out to a registered dietitian who can help you adjust your diet in a safe way. You can also reach out to the National Eating Disorders Association for resources and support.
While its not a risk, another potential negative with this diet is that it likely will require more meal planning and prep than eating processed foods does though thats something that you can get used to and streamline through habits like batch cooking and freezing leftovers, adds Young.
Precautions To Take Before Trying Whole30
A major plus of the Whole30 program is it isnt exclusive or limited to one particular group of people.
“While we have hundreds of medical doctors and registered dietitians using our program with their patients and clients, you dont have to be sick to benefit from the program, Urban says. If you want more energy, better sleep, improved digestion, and fewer cravings, the Whole30 is for you.
But before you dive in, it’s important to check with your doctor, especially if youre on prescription medication, if youve been diagnosed with a medical condition, or if you have a history of an eating disorder, she warns. After all, some individuals require certain nutritional plans, and Whole30, just like any eating approach, isnt one-size-fits-all.

Whats Sabotaging Your Health
Toxins are everywhere. If you live in the modern world , theyre impossible to escape. Everyday were exposed to environmental pollutants, contaminated water, pesticides, herbicides, processed food, chemical preservatives, genetically modified foods, daily household productsthe list goes on and on.
Add to that the rise in hidden food sensitivities, which only contributes to overwhelming the bodys toxic load, and we have a serious health crisis on our hands. A crisis that can largely be tackled by changing the food we eat.
Lets take a closer look at what it means to be a conscious cleanser.
When you hear the word cleanse, do you imagine drinking liquids only for days on end, choking down expensive supplements, or being chained to the toilet? This is an old notion of cleansing that, while effective for some, typically only leads to short-term gains.
A conscious cleanse is not a quick fix.
It is a 14-day reboot followed by a permanent lifestyle change.

Why Do You Need A 3 Day Detox
Your body neutralizes and eliminates toxins every day, so the so-called detox is happening all the time. However, sometimes we loose track and eat foods that arent exactly good for us, we eat sugar, junk food and refined carbs, and our body has a harder time metabolizing it, nutrients are consumed in the process and the liver gets tired.
This is when you should reconsider a nutrient-dense diet, to fuel the cells with everything they need for a healthy activity.
I see the nutrient-rich diet should as a lifetime objective, rather than a 1, 3 or 7 day of detox.
Since we dont always have the time or possibility to eat healthy, getting a few days of healthy eating, or detox, every now and then is a thing that will body will thank you for, and a new occasion to reconsider the attention and time you give to your health, and why not, to set a healthier lifestyle intention you can try stick to.
When I plan short periods of detox, I always have in mind two main objectives nourishing my body with high quality nutrients and keeping my mind calm and focused.
It may sound overwhelming, but its actually easy if you dont view the detox as a stressful must-do, but more as a treat, a pleasure for your mind and body, and an opportunity to reconnect with your inner self. It will need your full attention, but its just another way to take control over your life and your state of wellness, to feel and look your best.
Foods To Avoid On Whole30
Now that you know what you can eat, lets take a look at everything that you need to avoid during your Whole30 journey.
- Dairy: That means no cheese, no butter, no milk, and no ice cream! Anything remotely dairy-based is absolutely off-limits on Whole30!
- Legumes: Legumes include beans, lentils, and peas.
- Whole Grains: Avoid any whole grain bread, oats, and cereals.
- Alcohol: Youll have to say goodbye to the boxed wine and G& Ts for now. You may be surprised at how much energy you have by avoiding alcohol for thirty days!
- Added sugar: This means no Stevia, Splenda, Equal, or other sugar alternatives as well. Natural sugars in fruits are okay, but everything else isnt. Check extra carefully on all labels for added sugar.
- MSG, sulfates, etc: MSG is found in lots of Chinese and Japanese food, so double-check that it isnt there. And if youre in doubt, you should probably skip the takeout and just make a version of what you want at home!
- No chips. No candy. No popcorn . This is covered in some of these other categories, but its worth reiterating that all guilty-pleasure snacks are not allowed.
- Desserts all around: The same goes for desserts. If youre craving some sugar, sneak in some natural fruit instead!
